These are the Real RK 56's...They are plastic, just c"H"rome plated...

As for "are they the same as the older Turner Road King's" NO...Turner sold out years ago to Barjan. There are NO MORE Turner Mic's...They are built and sold by Barjan, and IMO ever since Barjan took over, the quality has gone down hill...

Usually the first thing to go wrong with RK 56's will be in the plug that fits onto the radio...The Mic wires inside the connector will either break, or come un-soldered and then you'll be looking for the nearest shop to solder the wires back in place. So I would suggest always have a back-up Mic handy!

Sparky's can sell these Mic's cheaper than what you would see at Truck Stops, because they buy in bulk. These Mic's are not packaged for resale like what you would find at the Truck Stops. There are several "On-Line" CB Shops that sell Mic's this way so you can save some money...There's another On-Line shop that sells the Astatic 636L un-packaged for $19 each...

Road King Mic's were good back in the day, it's just sad that Because of hard times Turner had to sell out to a Company like Barjan that took a good product and ruined it by cutting corners to save a buck or two.

I was thinking DAS got the Turner line, but I guess it doesn't matter the quaility is the same between DAS and Barjan.

Same with their version of the Wilson line of antenna, K40 as well.Just remember Barjan's motto: "If we can't beat the competition...we buy them."

Do you all know when they sold out what year? I think I have all newer ones. They may not be as good as the older ones but I still think they are probly one of the best mic you can get. I was tempted to try a 636l but I don't think the tone is good match for me. They have a higher pitched tone it seems. I did try the skythumper 56 mic that looks like them. They are very close to the rk56. They talk alittle louder but also have a tad more background noise. But they are my second pic for mics. I went with the rk because with my radio (93T) I can only run the mic gain 1/2 and its plenty loud. So I focused on the cleanest I could get sound. I will say the sky thumper has a better switch in it. Sadley both of my newest 56 style mics have shorts from beeing dropped. they work most of the time but when you really need it it never fails they crap out on me so I will keep them as spares for work and my personal truck.

Not sure when Turner sold out, and your right about the 636l's...For some people the 636i's will have a "tinny" sound...Just depends on your voice.

There is another Noise Canceling Mic available now that runs around $40 which IMO is much better built than the RK's, and has a great sound to boot!

Ranger SRA 198...It has a different look to it, and also a better Mic element inside, and also has a spring around where the cord comes out of the Mic, to keep from pulling wires loose inside. And has some weight to it!

I have been using the Ranger SRA 198 on my General Lee now for about 6 months and get nothing but complements on it...

The telex turner road kings in the blister packs are ok. Chrome RK's do look terrible after one yr of normal wear and tear. Some cb shops carry the original RK 56B that carries a better quality cord than blister pack. The original will come in a white box cleary marked RK 56B. The original 56 will last you many years to come.

I had a 50th anniversary chrome RK56....I liked how it looked but the plastic chrome plating got all spider-web cracked after a year or so. Then it looked kinda dumb.

I'm just shocked that you had a RK to last a year! I have a Chrome one lying around here somewhere, that I have had for a couple of years, and it still looks almost New!

It don't work tho...Hasn't for the last 23 months...Just has broke wires in the connector, but I refuse to fix the thing...I use to hang it around my rear-view mirror just to remind myself why not to buy anymore Road Kings!
