I am confused. I had a L/O tell me last night that the fuel goes with the trip, and not with week. So if you pick up a load on Tuesday that will not deliver until Thursday, you can fill up Tuesday and not have it come out of the next settlement. If it is by the week, I see that I will only be topping off once every week, and that will be on Thursday, and then after that, topping one tank at a time.

I'll go back through my settlements. I could be mistaken, it happens....but I do remember eearly on, a couple of times fuel came around and bit me.

Ok. I did one better...and faster. I called payroll and asked. Fuel and all other associated expenses are processed with the trip they are associated with. I was wrong about that one. Also, there is no corporate discount for fuel. That is included with the fuel surcharge. Cash price, minus FSC is what we pay.
Yeah, I know. Leave it alone, k? Don't wanna hear a bunch of company bashing over this. It's not the purpose of the thread.scottied67 and The Challenger Thank this. -
That surprises me. As large as Swift is, they should have to power to negotiate the prices.Injun, The Challenger and scottied67 Thank this. -
and the pump price is never .50 differnt than WA only a few cents again.. if you get such a great deal in oregon why don't your same discount apply to the same truck stop chain in WA or CA or ID for that matter and save even more and get the tax benefitLast edited by a moderator: Mar 31, 2011

it sounds as if you guys are buying fuel looking at things from a week to week basis, no matter when you buy it it all works out over the course of a year.
fill the thing up when ya first get the truck, bite that bullet, then put fuel in as you run , keeping mind fuel tax rates etc. that way the truck stays full ya dont get cought short anywhere. invest in tank inserts AND locking fuel caps. and also wait to fill up as redd said. personally i run my truck looking at things from a quarterly basis, i also write myself a paycheck everyweek and everything else stays with the truck account. i treat it as a business and i am the employee, my settlement check isnt my paycheck, but then pay my truck payments, insurance etc. myself. no payroll deductions.scottied67 and Injun Thank this. -
Although I am a company driver, this thread is one of the most jam packed with good info that I have seen. Thank you all!
