Your son will be in some fine company. 1st impression I thought SEALS were badder. All have that swimmers build and ripped. But like anything else some are tougher/stronger than others. The Green Berets found a lot of their guys who could bench 400 lbs couldn't do that many chin/pull ups. So now lots of cross training. They have a tire off an MRAP that they flip over. Like putting a big old Nebraska sweet potato farmer in the gym. Learn to transfer all that gym work into real world. So many times they will show up a new SEAL on tire. Not for long. They work together and show each other tricks. These men sit around like a bunch of bums much of the time. Beards. Shorts. But when it is time to get serious it's obvious why they are considered as good as any in the world. They know their jobs and they get them done. Period. Then they can turn it off and back to bumming. LOL

Blue berets for the 101 back in my days. Always felt kind of ashamed wearing that since I was just aviation support and had no desire to do the training at that time.

Remember when the army went to black berets and really ticked me off!!! Rangers had earned the right to wear them!!!!!!

Big Duker,Before I leave to do some things here,I am wondering a few things,1: How is over all moral of those doing the grunt work, and do they believe they are making a difference by being there. 2: Being there,do you feel we are "winning" or simply doing what the Soviets did 31 yrs ago,and at the end of the day,we pull out and everything is basically the same as when we came..(Um,in NO way am I comparing our being there to the Soviet occupation) its just that we have the basically same military machine..3:Are there defined military goals over there.,or is it yet another conflict of "attrition?"

I cannot speak for today--but I am sure he is referring to the 101st outta Campbell--If you remember or have seen any of the Band of brothers series--that is the 101st--tough bunch also--lot of good natured ribbing between 101st&82d-(couple of us here at local watering hole from both-and know some of the younger guys in area from both also)used to refer to them as the screamin chickens--due to their Eagle Shoulder Patch--ok for us--but kinda like a domestic--gettin in middle--BAD IDEA--LOL
