ALSO: regarding the student loan, if you sign with company A right out of school and are with them for say 6 months and then you leave, company B (if they offer such) would repay the loan but company A would demand repayment on any portiion they've already paid, yes ?

You should pay attention to the stories if they are universally negative. Which company? (I can probably guess based upon what you said even with my short time on this board)

Everything thing I've read points to going to school on your own, that way you aren't locked into any one company and can move on anytime you want. That is how I'm doing it.

Don't make the mistake of thinking you can overcome an absolutely terrible company. If you read enough here you will see that others have thought the same only to come back and say "I should have listened". This doesn't count the ones that go to these companies and whose bodies are never found.........:biggrin_2551:

I am starting school with Roehl next week, I spent a lot of time looking into companies, and found them to have the best deal as far as I am concerned. I don;t know if you have looked into them, it might be what your looking for.

When I went to school it was my objective to become a Gas Hauler. So I went and applied to every Company pulling a tank. I learned as much as I could about a tank and when I became elligable to Haul Gas I applied to a company that would hire me. My is decide what you want to do with your CDL then apply to them kind of companys. I have never pulled a box or Skate boarded. Not trying to say I better than anyone else just saying that kind of work doesn't appeal to me.

Well, you prolly can guess *coughcoughusxcough* which company I'm talking about :yes2557:. See, the reason I decided to try them anyway is because of people who'd had a positive experience with them. Right now, I need work ! Big time ! I'm broke ! Since trucking is something I've thought about since I was 8 and since truckers always seem to be in demand, sounds like if I suck it up and survive, I'll be building myself a good future.

No.If the loan is repayment for the tuition you paid to get a CDL A ,prior to signing w/ company A;your loan monthly reimbursement just stops because you no longer work at company A.In my son's case he would have to stay w/ Werner for 28 months to get his full loan reimbursemrnt. If he signs on w/ company B he just loses that $100 per month extra reimbursement.

i went to C.R england driving school and in two weeks youll have your CDL,there instructors give you your driving test,so pretty much you pay to get you cdl and they just teach you the basics then a month with a phase one trainer then like 2 or 3 months with a phase 2,

LOL well there was so much negative talk about US Xpress I just assumed....my bad :biggrin_25525:

Yeah, I looked into C R England and several other companies that train their own and as I stated, all the way 'round it just looks like school then US Xpress is my best bet. I'm actually quite excited 'bout it all, I must say. I feel in my gut I've made the right decision for me. Plus, I know there are probably some pretty bad companies out there to work for, but I think for the most part, you get out of it what you put into it and it all comes down to my attitude.

hey steel girl....im on the same path as you so im rooting for u :). I'm getting money via WIA to pay for my school so I get to choose what school I go to and it's 100 paid for. Look up WIA aka Workforce investment Act in your state...should be in your unemployment office. Hurry though they are shutting down soon due to lil cash.

Right now I'm eying working for watkins and sheapard once i get my license because you dont have to drive with a trainer once they hire you...wish me luck ladies. Stay in touch cuz sisters have to stick together.
