I am a new student starting in about 2-3 weeks. Anyways on the website it says you choice where you want to go, and you are not forced to go to new york city, however if you choose to go to new york city you receive bonus pay? is this true? do you really choose where you are going? lets say, I want to go down south every time (texas/georgia) then head back home to wisconsin?

i know people like to say things to make you happy and set the hook but can any experienced millis drivers confirm?

no you do not get to pick where loads go more or less if you want to be regional or over the road. yes you do get a 100 dollars to deliver to new york city.

yeah i knew it had to be to good to be true as far as picking your loads, now as far as going to new your city goes, do they make you go or is that the only load you can choose?

It's where the customers ship to that generally dictate where the trucks go. It's tough for a carrier to say "We'll take your Texas freight, bit we don't want your NYC freight". Especially when freight was as slim as it was. Major shippers want carriers that haul freight, not pick and choose where they want to go.

They say they will not force you to go to nyc but I have never had to find out. I only ever picked up a load that went to nyc once and i swapped it out in Ohio with a driver that lived over there going home and took his load back to Wisconsin. I know we have some drivers that just love going there for the extra money and they seem to be the ones that get there alot.

I am not complaining by any means, just curious about statements that I have come across online about the company. Fairly nervous, so I have been online trying to find out as much as possible and everybody knows not everything you read online is true so I knew it had to be a load of crap but I figured I would just double check.

As far as going to NYC, the only reason I am worried about it is because half my family drives a truck and everybody says NYC sucks and as a new driver of course I have a lot of pressure being put on me and what not so we'll see, the extra $100 would be nice though.

To put it very simply....Millis IS a forced dispatch company, however the statement is correct about NYC. You will not be "forced" to go there and as spanky mentioned, the drivers that live in that area are usually the ones that take those loads.
As I tell ALL my students...take what they give you and you will be very happy here, try to pick and choose your loads and you won't.
dbanning264, depending on how you look at it....YEP, NYC sux because of the congestion but getting around really isn't that bad once you learn how it's laid out.

You get a load - you take that load and deliver it! No matter what. I have been rolling now for almost 11 months and have never questioned a load or refused a load in any way. Hell, I dead headed for 200 miles to pick up a load that only went 1 mile away to the customer. I didnt ask why - I just did it. The next load I got was over 1K miles.

I know some that have/do - and those are the ones wondering why they dont get enough miles.

Greg and my OTR trainer embedded in me to "Keep the left door and my mouth shut and run"! I have continued to do just that and it's working well for me so far.

Thank you, I feel like the questions I keep asking on the forums are making me look like a negative person. I hope this isn't the image I am putting out there for myself. Like I have stated in other thread's I am simply trying to gather as much information about this new career before I get to class.

I have no problem with any load, I am ready to go, travel and start this new experience. Anyways, Thank you guys for answering my questions.
