I hear most of the "new breed" drivers look like Patrick Swayze from Blackdog.

It really boils down to, old school has bad drivers, bad habits, etc...new breed has bad drivers, bad habits etc....and both wanting to blame each other. The bad ones in each (old and new) make the rest look bad. Movies dont help, they show truck drivers as law breakin, drug using , womanizing time bombs....thats simply NOT TRUE...sure there are bad...there is IN EVERY PROFESSION...but instead of everyone pointing fingers and blaming each other, we all need to pull together....but we all know that wont happen....its like this IMO, growing up, we all thought WE KNEW IT ALL...LOL, little did we know, WE DIDNT, its really the same attititude with SOME, not all, of the newer drivers and they have even said this, that "its different now then it was then ,you cant teach me anything" .."CUZ YOUR OLD"....same ideas our kids think about life in general...you read thread after thread of the same thing, just worded different. Some new drivers come out here with A GREAT attitude and are a natural EVEN tho, they still need to gain exp.. some come out with "I KNOW IT ALL cant teach me anything I went to truck driving school.".. some of the older ones, have an" I HAVE BEEN OUT HERE 30 years I KNOW IT ALL"..THATS SIMPLY NOT TRUE!!! WRONG ATTITUDE on both parts...there are things that A BOOK CAN NOT teach....only time and exp will....IMO ,yes it is a job, but it is also a lifestyle...its our way of living, I am on the road more than I am home, we stay out 8 weeks at a time...you couldnt and wouldnt do that, for just a JOB..we have held other jobs outside of trucking....and trucking is just in our blood...its what we were meant to do...we have never stayed away very long, it HAS to be a way of life, a lot of people have no pride in their truck, cuz "its just a job"...either side, if they have a bad attitude (new or old)sooner or later, it will bite them in the BUTT....as far as dress....I understand being comfortable, but you wouldnt go to an office job with sweats or shorts of flip flops, or for the women your boobs hangin out (ok ,maybe ignore the last part yes they would)...I wear shorts to drive in...but unless I have to go to the little girls room REALLY bad, I put jeans on first before I get out. I am not putting anyone down, I just think it looks better, and more professional to be dressed decent. The new ones or old ones that have the attitudes, are most likely not gonna change their way of thinking ,NO MATTER how many times we say it or HOW we say it....people are pretty set in their ways....but it is WRONG to lump everyone together OLD OR NEW and say, well its the old school drivers fault or its the new breed....cuz not all have the wrong frame of mind!!!!!

And to expand just a little on the "Old vs New" thing,I think every generation goes through this somewhat,as just a couple days ago,my brother was remarking how his kid's,and their friends,i.e.,the younger generation, have no drive,no motivation,no work ethic,do not respect anything,no value system,etc.,etc.,and etc. I paused, and simply said,"Randy, that is what Dad and his friends used to say about us;#### near word for word." He paused, and then agreed, which is rare,as he has been a "trucker" since 1976.:biggrin_25525:

We were all NEW at 1 time and we will all be OLD at 1 time.

Trucking though, may be unique in that, not many other professions have as many, say 50 yr old "newbies" as other's. I think, with regard to the thought at hand, one is either courteous or not,it is not something learned, but is a part of the person. I have met many A-holes,of every age, gender, and race, while doing this OTR thing,REGARDLESS of experience level.-Same holds true with meeting, just good, down to earth people, who just happen to be pushing a Big Rig,regardless of experience level...Is that not basically true, whatever job we happen to be doing,or wherever we are?

Well said,Im I quess a new breed driver I quess, can drive with any of the old timers so to speak, safely and respectfully.Gotta a lot to learn still, learning everyday after three years. As should every driver no matter what they think they no.Very disrespectful to new drivers that do the job the right way and showing respect along the way.Hmmm seems like your the one being disrespectful.
