Here's the situation. I am a new driver, about to reach my 6-month OTR experience mark. The idea was to put in at least 1-yr w/ Schneider and after that go work for another company that offers a better deal. So far I can't complain about Schneider. The only problem I have w/ them is working the Dollar General account. It's not really the unloading part that's the problem (even though I must say, it's a pain in the you know what). But when it comes to hometime, DG really screws me over because their system doesn't work w/ the Schneider Flex Fleet Program. Target, JC Penney, Home Depot, Chets, have all been good. Dollar General is the problem. It really pushes me to the point of looking elsewhere. Now my question is this...
Being a new guy, without wanting to reputation of a job-hopper (because nobody will want to hire a job-hopper), should I just suck it up until my year is up or is 6 months enough time for me to look elsewhere for something better? Experienced drivers, I really need your input on this because you guys know the industry better than anyone else.
Job Hopper???

Look while you're working but stay with the job until that something better comes along. Like window shopping until you find what you want. Even if the job you want says "come back in 6 months" you're neither high and dry or desperate. Looks much better on your resume too when you can say "presently employed at".

I agree with kittyfoot, I'd try to stick it out till your 1 year is over, but meanwhile keep looking for a better job......

I definitely wouldn't be looking for another job. Hometime is going to be a problem no matter where you go. Actually your chances of it being worse working for another company are pretty good. With that being said I would put a lot of thought and consideration into quitting. The grass is always greener!

I would look within Schnieder as well. You state you like the company just not that one account. Maybe you could move to a different dedicated division of Schnieder.

Try to see if you can change divisions within Schneider. I don't know of any company that is going to have you home every weekend on the day you want, but the time you want. I personally have had problems with Schneider, hence the reason why I left. Just be sure not to quit unless you are sure that is really what you want to do. Sometimes we get hotheaded and quit on a whim,(I'm guilty)lol, but I have been not working for 3 months have been hired by 3 carriers this past friday after applying the day before. I feel as if the 1 year of experience is really suggested before quitting.
