Sitting here in Guyon, OK. Load will be ready sometime today. Probably this afternoon or evening.
    I have a 34 complete at 2145.
Did the math and can leave tomorrow morning and deliver on time comfortably.
Now I wonder if someone in dispatch will decide to make me uncomfortable!
At least I'm back to driving during daylight hours. Was beginning to worry about silver crosses and wolfbane with all those night runs lately.
    Stay safe everyone.

Hey this is nothing against Stevens Transport at all because I have heard nothing but good about them....but how on gods earth can you guys stand going that slow? I mean if the pay was alot higher that would be cool but from what I have heard they dont pay anymore then any other large company. Please let me know how you do it. Just curious to how you drivers feel about there speed rules

Basically, its about trip planning.Even at 62 you can run well over 3000 miles in a week.A faster truck doesnt get your delivery time moved up.All it does is waste fuel.Whats the good of getting there two hrs earlier, you have to sit two more hrs.Having said that I have a 66 mph truck but still run at 58 mph most of the time.Another mile per gallon nets me over 10 grand more a yr in pay.Pretty easy for me to keep my foot out of it for another 200 bucks a week.

I hate the Northeast. But I have to run it to make money and train my drivers. If I had my druthers I would run Cali any day of the week.5300 miles last week,4300 this week.Turnin and burnin.Sitting in Waterloo, expect Tyson to come calling.Drivers done on Wednsday, trying to get him back to the yard.Everybody be safe.

Sounds like your doing all the right things.Stay on your managers behind so to speak.Im how shall I say, more excitable.A 2000 mile week for me wouldnt draw a pleasant conversation between me and my DM,LOL.But he knows that.So he tries to avoid those conversations.

I am not trying to call you a liar, but speed does not really affect your MPG unless your running at like 70+ I go 67-68 and My truck still averages 6.5-7.0 MPG. and yes it does mean you can run more. 62X11 =682 which no 62 MPH truck will ever do....now a 68 MPH truck 68X11 =748. Thats an additional 66 miles. That extra mileage could mean a delivery on time, a truck stop vs. a rest area. It matters quite a bit. It may not move your delivery time up but it can make or break an early delivery which means sooner dispatch on next load. Thats just my 2 cents. Like I said I am not doggin Stevens one bit I have heard nothing but good from the drivers. I just could not fathom going that slow:biggrin_25523:

I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have been passed by the same truck that was in the truck stop last night and will be in the same one with me tonight. They blow by me at least 10mph faster in most cases.
I talk with a lot of drivers and I was an O/O with my own authority 20 years. I know about mileage.
I can absolutely tell you that speed matters.
For every mile per hour you slow down between 70 and 60, it translates to about 1/10th mpg.
I too travel around 57-58. I have run the same routes with about the same weight in the same truck at different speeds. Speed does matter.
Like the other guys say... it translates to about $200 per week more in my pocket.
And in today's trucking world, fuel economy is tantamount to success.
I don't mind the slower travel. Less stress. I never watch for cops anymore.
The way I look at it, I'm out on the road. It doesn't matter if I'm parked in a truck stop or driving, I'm away from home.
What does matter is the money.
I'd rather spend a little more time on the road, and less time parked, but have more money.
    Just my two cents worth.

Well to each is own. We are not here to argue. All I know is that I get the same mileage going 68 then i do going 58. New engine technology makes this possible. Watch the videos that Cummins has out and you will notice the speedometer is at 70. So if the engine manufacture runs that fast obviously it would seem like the way to go. But thanks for your imput. I will always learn a new opinion or fact everyday:biggrin_255:

It also has a lot to do with the specs of the truck other than the engine. Stevens obviously has theirs spec'd for the 58-62 range. I know of another O/O with a new Cascadia that has a sweet spot around 68-70mph. I do agree with Emulsified about having less stress and tension cruising down the road at 60ish, but out in Montana and Arizona it can feel more like 35mph.
Do you ever grow tired of hearing " Hey Stevens, ya got anotha f*****g gear in that tranny?!" :biggrin_25516::biggrin_25523:
