So Lee (the student recruiter that was assigned to me) told me I would have my email from him on Friday morning...It's now Monday morning and still nothing. I have taken Craig's advice and put a call into my job placement director at my school. I told her what I've been going through with this recruiter. She was not happy. She is going to call the field recruiter that came to my school and see if he can get the ball rolling. So I'm sitting here not knowing and I had planned to be at Orientation on Monday? It's very frustrating..I was hoping the recruiter would show some interest in wanting me to come there. Oh well, let's see what happens next.:biggrin_25523:

I have found that with most of the recruiters I have dealt with that you have to keep calling them. For whatever reason they don't seem to call you back. As they say "the squeaky wheel gets the grease". I mean it should'nt be that way, you would figure if you leave a message that common curtitsey would be for them to call you back.

I know what you mean. When you're new though in the biz like I am, you don't know what to expect. I was told these companies would really want us and I found out right away that wasn't the case. I squeeked a little, got some good advice from here and I will be starting orientation in Tunnel Hill, GA on April 25th. It got so bad though that my school called the field recruiter and got on the guy for not following through with me...Anyway, it's all good.:biggrin_255:

Good luck! I know they are short on trainers. I was hired on 4/7 and was sent home on the 8th, I am hoping to get one this week.

I was wondering about that. So you went through orientation, got hired then they sent you home? How long did they say it would be?

They didn't say other then they were hoping this week. My friend whom I am going to team with just got a trainer today. Part of my problem is I am a non-smoker and prefer a non-smoker. I have been doing some thinking this afternoon and I am going to have to suck it up if it means getting a trainer sooner. I have 5 kids at home and I need to get this going. I put another call into my finishing cordinator, now waiting for her to call me back.

Oh wow, I requested a non smoker too. If I have to wait for them I will, luckily I can keep my unemployment going. I don't think I could handle being in a truck for 3 weeks with a smoker. Please keep us posted on your progress. I think now that I should only pack for the orientation??? What are your thoughts on this?

When I went this is what I packed. I honestly dont think you nees anymore then that.

    5 pair jeans
    7 pair socks and underware.
    7 shirts
    1 sweatshirt
    1 jacket
    2 pair shorts
    sleeping bag and pillow.
    flip flops.
thats all I brought for clothes.
I called my finishing cordinator today and told her I would still prefer a non-smoker, but told her if a smoker comes up let me have them. I need to get working so I am willing to suck it up by doing the right thing for my family. As they say adapt and overcome. I am going to team with a friend from school and he left last night to meet his trainer. I hope this helps.

Maybe I should tell them I don't care either. I only quit smoking 7 months ago and I'm afraid between the nerves and someone else smoking, it may be too much and I will pick up again. I was a heavy smoker for 35 years so I really don't want to take any chances. I can adapt as far as other things go. If I have to have a male trainer, then so be it. It's only 3 weeks out of my life. Kudos to you though! Hope you get to work very soon.

I talked to another school mate of mine tonight, he was supposed to be on the bus in the morning and he was all packed and they called and told him it was on hold because one of his past employers hadn't responded. He feels he's been jacked around as he's been through 4 different people at US Xpress now. I am good to go as far as that stuff, I'm just prepared that I may have to wait for a trainer..Not a problem. I want this to be a positive experience. Thanks for the packing list!!
