If you really want a good laugh pick up one of the truck stop hiring books and look # averitt's flatbed ad. If you been flatbeddin over a year you will have a good laugh from just the picture alone.
It's no wonder they want experienced flatbedders because they obviously have no clue how to do it.
Flatbeds...skateboards...why?

At that temperatures your just trying to get them within 102" width so you can just strap em down & go. Then your hoping that your reload is inside. That way they can thaw a little & hopefully you can get them folded while your getting reloaded.cruisecontrol, Joetro and 07-379Pete Thank this. -
Well I have pulled alot of types of trailers. I perfer cow wagons then it is RGN's, drop decks. It seems that the harder the job the better I like it. I can't stand box's I don't like providing free labor for a company that should unload their stuff off my trailer. With an open trailer I feel it is my job to get the load to the other end safe and in good shape meaning tarp it if it is called for chain it strap it. What ever it needs to safely transport it to the other end of the line.

I would still like to know what you guys are talking about with all this "rolling and folding tarps" being hard. I rolled my tarp 6 times yesterday, almost got dirty when I rubbed against it.

What is your favorite type of flatbed freight? Some guys prefer coils, my dad prefers bricks, personally I like pipe, I haul alot of casing and drill pipe and i've grown quite fond of it.
-
I like my freight to be lightweight, no-tarp, and high dollar (I'm paid on percentage). I don't mind coils... out of all the tarp loads, this is probably the one I prefer (even if they don't pay the best).
I hate plastic pipe and "eye to the sky" Alcoa aluminum coils.
The signs from Daktronics.... love/hate with them. My biggest problem with them is that they tend to be encased in cheap 1x4 board which like to break the moment you tighten your straps down. -
plastic pipe always looked miserable.

It's might not be so bad, if trailer manufacturers were more prone to putting winches on both sides of the trailer.
Civilservant Thanks this. -
I'm one of those fat ##### who pulled Mercer's flatbed freight for 5 1/2 years...started at age 50. I worked a little slower but good freight and lightweight tarps were the key.Civilservant Thanks this.
