Suppport Thread for the TND 500, TND 700 or future Rand McNally products.

Driving from NYC to Hartford today on 95 once I got into Connecticut my unit kept telling me that there is a truck speed limit of 50 mph. There was an orange speed limit sign on screen that said truck limit all the way to exit 48 for 91 north. There is no truck speed in Connecticut on 95. Also when I put in avoid to toll roads it sent over the Triborough Bridge also now known as Robert F Kennedy Bridge which is a toll bridge.

 

I have noted this in the past that the "avoid" settings are not that fully functional.

One thing I did note on this. In some places the toll may only be in one direction, like a bridge. The unit does not seem to know the toll direction.

After so many attempts, finally I was able to talk to the rand manager Akter today. He seems to be a reasonable guy to talk to. I discussed some customer service issues with him specially the return policy and this is what he explained me and I want to share this with everyone.

(1) 30 days refund and exchange policy, no question asked. For exchange due to defective unit, they pay for overnight Shipment (both ways)

(2) After 30 days, there is no refund but all units are covered under 12 month warranty. They will try to fix issues over phone first, else issue an RMA for repair or exchange.

Proof of purchase is required in both the cases above.

He also confirmed that rand technical support is committed to provide "phone technical support" to all customers regardless of warranty period, however if there is a need to exchange a defective unit, then they apply the 12 month warranty policy from the date of purchase. In this case, the worst part is that you have to save your proof of purchase for 12 months. He also explained that accidental damages are not covered under 12 month warranty.

Finally I asked him to provide his direct email or phone and his answer was to email him at tndsupport@randmcnally.com and in the subject line write "attention to manager technical support".

 

one more thing -rand is also launching a program to repair accidental damages and out of warranty units in a reasonable price to customers from this august.

 

My 500 has headed me into 11' overpasses twice in the last week and these weren't new construction, more like 100yr old train overpasses...Curious as to how it doesn't know they're there?...

 

I'm guessing predictive traffic will linked to data sent to RM's database from the 710 and 510 receivers so, the question is, any idea when these will be available?

I see pretictive traffic on my 710. I am now waiting for live traffic antenna. any idea when will the live traffic antenna available and at what price?
