Yeah, it's BS. Give you an icon system and then tell you not to use the GDthing. And when you brake down and do because the sweat is rolling down your back in the middle of the night they write you a msg on the Qualcomm telling you you're going to be charged $300 to $400 for your friggin idle time from some joker that goes home, takes a shower and eats his dinner while he watches cable on his flat screen TV. They want you to sit in your truck, in the dark till the next load comes along. If you run an AC or a cooler, computer, phone or whatever with the truck off then you're looking to jump your battery in the morning...The ICON system is just a way for them to say you're being treated fairly....HEY, do me the favor and pull the frickin thing out of my truck. I dont need the temptation.
But then, I did sign so I'll stop the bellyaching and drink my hot soda in the dark.

Right now, a hotel room would be cheaper than idling...

I've always liked the comparison of a guy that works in the office and a driver. How many people would switch roles with the office staff?

You have 2 years experience. Change jobs to a company with an APU. There are too many jobs out there to work for a company that has no regards to your personal comfort. This is 2011, not 1980.

You make your company money by driving safely and delivering loads on time. Not by getting ripped on your pay and sweating like you work in a foundry. The long hours we work, a man needs his sleep. It's hard to sleep when you are sweating bullets and mosquito's are biting you.

It's fact that an APU pays for itself in 13 months. Those stats were when fuel was $2.50/gal too. It probably pay for itself in 7-8 months now. There's no excuse everyone can't have an APU. Any person/company can take a loan out and the savings make the payments. Out of pocket expenses? ZERO!

    delta5 Thanks this.

So like you didn't know the idle policy of your company and now you want to complain because you are above the standard? Sounds like you might want to focus some of that anger back to yourself. Know what the company expects from you and compare it to what you want for yourself. If the two don't match than you should consider going somewhere else. But don't blame the company because they are asking you to follow a policy that was established long before you started working for them. Oh and if you want an APU give an honest effort to reducing your idle time for the next 3 months or so and use that as a bargaining tool. Let them know that you are willing to do what you can to reduce idle and you want to make things work. The office staff usually likes to hear stuff like that.

Im looking for another company right now and this is the first thing that I ask the recruiters. If they say they dont have APU's, I tell them goodbye and move on to the next one. Im tired of the idle fight too...
