I agree with the bulk of your commentary. Keep in mind that everyone was sold a 'bill of goods' about NAFTA - just a few short years after the Reagan 'amnesty' for the illegals - predominately from Mexico. It was all 'feel good politics' on the heels of deconstructing 'White, racist regimes in Africa' with everyone 'movin on up'.
We all recall the few, lone voices in the wilderness such as Ross Perot. The IBT has been singularly active in fighting the wholesale 'invasion' of mexican trucking firms while the rest of organized labor seems to be only paying 'lip service' so as to not appear 'intolerant'....

it's funny they used a pic of an orange hood in an article about higher pay benefiting bottom lines.
raylazyboy and 123456 Thank this. -
I have never one to be politically correct. I don't understand why people seem to want to hide the truth. Neither party has addressed illegals. Both have something to gain from illegals coming into the country. It seems that all parties involved only want to give "lip service" to the issue.

Speaking of the original issue, I guess I am the only 1 that thinks hourly pay 4 truck drivers is a #### good idea!!!
-
The greedy truck companies would not want to properly pay their slaves.
They would have to pay for when the truck is sitting waiting for loads and detention.
They would have to pay when the truck is broke down as well.Last edited: Apr 15, 2011
truckerdave1970 Thanks this. -
I don't think that it is practical. Drivers are unsupervised and to pay someone an hourly wage without supervision is a recipe for disaster. The only way to pay drivers and be certain that the company is getting value and the driver is being fairly compensated is with mileage or percentage. Both will require the driver to produce. Hourly would only encourage many to not do what is expected of them and would result in a situation that we have with many of these union warehouses where people are doing the bare minimum to get along and not doing their job. Productivity would most likely drop dramatically.48Packard Thanks this. -
Why do you want to demean drivers by calling them slaves? Slaves are chained to their work, cannot leave any time they wish, and not compensated. None of that is true in this business. -
They have to sit in the trucks waiting for the qualcomm to go off. Meanwhile they are not compensated during this time.
I have sat in a truck stop for a full day waiting for a load and received nothing.
Call it what you want.
If I am away on the truck, I am working for them. They should be paying.walleye and truckerdave1970 Thank this. -
Drivers fault !!!!!
Nobody is forced to work for any company.
Switch companies.
If you aren't making 40 to 55 cents a mile, it is Your Own fault ................ -
If you look at all of them, you will find they have one thing in common. The fault I have listed.
You can make your 55 cents a mile, but not get paid a dime if the truck cannot move because of the weather or road closed or sitting at docks.Last edited: Apr 15, 2011
