One issue you may run into, the title is from NC and the registration, although expired, is still NC.
If you transfer title and reregister in OR, Oregon is going to want taxes paid and the taxes may be according to the value of the truck when it was new.
I am not familiar with Oregon DMV and taxes but I did run into this in the state of Washington, It was a real PITA! and costly.

The way i do this would too be looking at truckstops for heavy haul drop deck trls and see if they need a back haul back that way, toss him a few dollers and your problems are solved

    Hmmm...interesting idea!!

This mean they would load the ENTIRE TRUCK (not just the contents), right?

And how might I go about finding someone? I mean, I'm resourceful and can just get on the phone and see how far I get w/ random truck stops etc., but any other ways you might suggest?

How much would be fair to offer someone? I assume their company (or their business situation in some form or another) would be paying their actual expenses, so I don't need to pay them for the entire fuel/driving bill, just pay the driver for basically taking on the side job of hauling loaded instead of unloaded...?

ETA - This truck is currently parked in Eugene, Oregon - 5 minutes off of I-5 (SUPER EASY!!) and Eugene is 2 hours due south of Portland (also on I-5).

I'm not sure how easy it would be to find someone coming directly from Portland/Eugene to Charlotte NC, but I KNOW there's got to be people that run down I-5 from Washington/Oregon to Los Angeles, and then across I-40 from LA to North Carolina!! Even if it's 2 separate drivers that trade off in LA...I will be so phenomenally grateful if your idea works out, Everett!!!!!

I already got the rundown on that from the Oregon DMV, it would cost $312 total to title & reg & tax it for one calendar quarter (April thru June, in this case) and no inspection required, only a VIN rub, signed title and proof of insurance. Thanks for the heads up, though. :) This stuff is crazy complicated - and it trips me out that it's all based on these little imaginary state lines on a map...it would be funny if it wasn't so disjointed and unpredictable! I have major newfound respect for those of you that independently keep track of all these regs!!
