I like reality not pie in the sky nor unobtainable dreams. Some unfortunate soles are taking about making money at central hmmmm. For that meter making money in trucking industry as a whole for driver is a dream.
Please take out your paper pencils and calculators and lets use little of that subject that you ware should have learned in school but did not. Central trucks are governed to 60 MPH like trucks in most big trucking companies. Since you need time to speed up and slow down and not infrequently you will have some knucklehead slow you down your honest average moving speed is going to be around 50 MPH. So since no meter what you do you will not be able to drive more than about 50 miles in the hour your earning potential is already limited to nickel and dime wage.
Problem number two for any super trucker that thinks that he will run two logbooks and take methamphetamines to make survivable wage good luck. Central like all trucking companies tests for drugs (THANK GOD FOR THAT) and you will be using electronic logging so no creative log keeping is possible. So under ideal conditions and rarely in reality do you get ideal situation you can at the best earn 50 MPH X 10 hours X .28 cents for first year driver = $140 keep in mind this is an ideal day not typical. Most times when you are routed through Salt Lake City terminal you must go through inspection and more often than not your truck will be read tagged and that usually means 3 days waiting for repairs. Central maintenance generally sucks. Maintenance is an expense and trucking company owners are really cheap SOBs that want to keep all the money in their pockets. Lock of intellect on their part prevents them from realizing that money is like manure if you collect too much of it stinks and you should spread it around but dumb $%%&^$% are keeping it all and you can imagine what kind of odor that creates. It is possible to be crafty deceitful and in general greedy that will guaranty sexes with money but also that you will be morally bankrupt inhuman and general faller as a human been.
On those days when maintenance bug gets you guess who will make no miles. On the road whether can stop you for days and again you make no miles. Shorter delays are very common. When you get to your destination and discover that you cannot be unloaded for 5 - 15 hours again you are not making miles and your 14 hour clock will stop you from driving after you get unloaded (usually works out that way). In trucking only ones that are making money are owners of trucking companies defiantly not the drivers. In fact it would be criminal what is being done to drivers if there was any honesty and decency left.
If you step in to the ultimate trap Owner operator program Slave operator is more like it) than you will get little that you made taken from you in order to pretend that you own a truck that will never be yours.
It starts with leasing company that is usually owned by trucking company owner but under relatives name to appear legit. You will be given a striped down truck at the price of normally equipped truck. Leasing company gets the trucks in huge quantity and gets them at fraction of the cost that you will pay leasing company. Since you will not make any extra money you will have no means of paying a balloon payment at the end of the lease meaning you paid, paid and paid but you get nothing for it. You have in fact financed truck for the owner of your trucking company so that he can put more of your money in his pocket. -
Mmm new member - first post - and sounding very bitter... sounds like you didn't like your experience at Central. Sorry to hear that...

PS:
if you have dangerous maintenance issue that company refuses to fix stop at any DOT inspection station and explain it to DOT officer, generally you will have no problem getting DOT to red tag the truck or order repairs if problem is legitimate. It will appear like you got stopped for inspection and will not reflect negatively on you. Please do not do this to get even bat for legitimate maintenance issues we do not want to lower ourselves to the level of trucking company owners and become lowlife, conniving greedy, evil, dirt bags. -
Lady K,
Are you from Central HR or a reciter? Good attempt at damage control. Actually central sucks less than most it is just that all major trucking companies practice deceit dishonesty and low pay. I am not bitter at all I am just stating facts as they are. -
There is an easy way to end all arguments over how much money you can make at Central as a company driver.
Yesterday was tax day. Look at your W-2, and there it is in black and white. Without any arguing, embellishment, or false modesty possible, there it is in black and white. -
But he is right!
stay company with Central and you will be OK just don't expect to make big money!!
Teams with Central especially husband and wife can do OK, not great but OK.
I'm not that bitter with central but believe me if you look like you may have the money to buy out the truck that will have around 450-500,000 on it they will find a way to can you or starve you out, its just reality and yeah I know the Central cheer leaders will shoot me down in flames for my comments because I used to be a Central cheer leaderand JJ was a Lease OP = Glorified company driver!
smadronia and Pedromorales Thank this. -
That is very true W-2 proves that drivers are working for pinot's, but companies have spoke-holes all over the internet speeding falls rumors in order to attract new victims.

Slavery is supposedly outlawed but sadly trucking companies have managed through intensive lobbying effort to in fact legalize form of slavery called owner op / lease program. Since companies control your income and your expense it is really easy for them to insure that you cannot actually end up with the truck that you have been for years paying for. If justice was to prevail owners of this companies would face criminal charges but I sincerely doubt that that will ever happen. Best that can be hoped for is that if enough noise is made that some sort of regulation would bring some tiny degree of fairness ant even that would be better than slavery (owner operator / lease program) that exists today. This is general comment not restricted to Central at all.

Pinots? I never got pinots from Central, but I make almost almonds at my company now.
