HI
I was planning on attending a 3 week program at a community college. Schneider has an advertisement in my towns daily newspaper. The lady recruiter told me I could expect to be out no longer that 5 days and off for 2. I then attended their hiring event here and the guy told me I would be out for up to 14 days with 2 days off.
Can someone tell me the truth?? I live in Stlouis MO. What do you think the chances are of a new cdl driver getting in as a regional driver that wont be out anymore than 3 to 5 days?? Im also 47 years old and might be given more slack that a younger guy.

The first thing I would like to address is, "given more slack than a younger guy". Wrong attitude to have, dont expect anything because your parents procreated before mine did. Schneider has all kinds of odd home time things going on, they have the home run, dedicated, regional, plus god knows how many other things.

Just speaking from our experience, all recruiters will tell you what they think you want to hear, re: hometime, pay, etc. - If your hired as OTR, then that's what you are, you'll get home, when it's convient for them. As a company driver, your there's, fortunately my husband now drives for a company that told him he would be home on weekends, but he has the option of staying out (which he does), so he's home every other weekend.
I don't think age, or family have anything to do with company's thought. It doesn't matter if your 24 or 68 - your there driver. I maybe wrong, but you defiantely came to the right place for the answer, these guys/gals will tell you the truth. Good Luck..........................Lori -
So whats the bottom line. Can a guy, right out of trucking school get a regional job that will allow him to be home on weekends???

Most companies have a regional gig of some sort, but don't count on being home every weekend as a new guy.

Look real hard for a smaller company that does nothing but regional, thats what I did when I graduated from school. We rarely haul anthing over 500 miles a trip, you can get longer runs if you want them. Good example was today, its friday, 2:00 pm, home for the weekend and still made $1000 for the week.

What company are u working for? Do they do any work in the stlouis area??

wow...I'm glad my current job keeps me away from home much longer than 14 days....longest I have spent away from home is 200 days. During that time I didn't have any contact with my family for over 80 days...twice!
