I don't like the trucks enough to own one, if they'd set them back up to Freightliner specs, or even an old Pumpkin truck, or I/C my own truck, I'd maybe consider it. I'm content as a company driver.

Yesterday morning some Maverick Bunnies :bunny:were outside the drivers lounge blowing bubbles. I know they were bunnies because they had bunny ears. One of them was the new girl in Safety. How many other companies would allow stuff like that during business hours?

We have a new well, a big one that'll take all week, starting up Monday. Dayshift started the pre-fill yesterday and night shift finished it up last night. We're all off the weekend and looking forward to big hours this next week.

Have a safe and Happy Easter.

Charlotte pipe for your next load perhaps? who knows. My atlas is in the truck and although newton rings a bell, i cannot remember where exactly in nc it is and even though you might be right down the road from a place we pickup, you might get sent whereever...WELCOME TO MAVERICK.....

As for your question re do the new guys get all the short/long runs, I'm sure you heard grumblings that sounded somewhat like...."yah they'll run your arse off when you're new then once you get up to .41 a mile, you wont get squat for milage". At Maverick, the loads are dispatched by csr's whom unless you have gone into the office and spoken with ie cindy in the Gary terminal to the point that she would remember your truck number not one csr that works for Maverick has any idea how much a driver makes per mile compared with another one. They see an empty truck and put an available load on it based on proximity to the customer and hours necessary in order to deliver the product on time. Stay here long enough and you'll hear some real doozies as far as bull feces that some of these drivers believe and try to spread as gospel.

Its like listening to drivers that swear that they get 7.5 mpg, foot to the floor, wherever they go. . .once again, i call BUSH. And then there's one of my favorites, "My truck used to get 8 mpg, then i took it in for service and now its below 6." LMAO!!!

He Sarge....have you ever been to Rupp Forge in Cleveland Ohio? The directions say you have to back down the street because there is no place to turn around.

Well yeah you're taking risk as a l/o but that comes with owning any business. I rarely turn loads down. Matter of fact its so rare I can only remember one time in the past year and that was recently. Ive found its best to take everything as it comes and roll with it. Every IC Ive talked to who tried to "control" their destiny that way wasnt making money. That is really the wrong attitude. As for not traveling certain places, its your truck do as you see fit. I DO NOT travel the northeast due to tolls and its a very rare load that I take west or to Florida due to lack of good paying freight. Lumber dont pay? Lmao. You better talk to some IC's that have been doin this awhile longer than a few months. Ive pulled many good paying lumber and drywall loads. Ive also hauled some cheap steel loads. It all depends on the customer, where the load is going and how bad they want it. Ive always been up front and honest with company drivers questioning me so if you run across me,obviously my names Dan, just ask and I'll show you my current load and any other info I have handy. Being IC isnt for everyone. You gotta be driven to suceed.

Ive never been there in my 8 yrs with Maverick but after a googlemaps search with satellite imagery it appears that wont be much of a hassle.

So if you do not mind, what do you project your yearly net to be after all expenses, but before taxes?

    Ramloghauler,

From Newton there are many options: Charlotte Pipe in Charlotte or Monroe, Ameristeel in Charlotte, Gladys VA, Moncure, Bennettsville, Russelville, Joanna, Princeton WV, Elizabethton TN and Alcoa TN all come to mind. Ya never know. There is another place over near Goose Creek that I just can't think of the name of. It's a lumber load. Oh yeah, there is a Central States in Mt. Airy too
