I was told by the shop foremen at both Tunnel Hill and Irving that they would install a driver supplied inverter up to 1750 Watts. Same can be said for them installing a CB and even replacing the dash mounted radio (although the driver would be required to keep the original radio so that it could be replaced when the truck is turned back in).

Does USX have any standards for a drivers BMI? Do they test it in orientation, or do they measure your neck?

I don't know of anyone who got a BMI test at Tunnel Hill, I know I didn't get one and I'm a big guy, well after seeing some of the guys here and in truck strops I'm actually not lol.

I did hear one guy got sent home because of sleep apnea. Don't know if he got a BMI test of if he disclosed something during the physical pertaining to that.

Thank you, glad to hear they don't do the BMI testing. I am just a worry wart! My husband's last day at his job is tomorrow and we are supposed to be in Colton, CA Monday morning to start orientation there. I am trying to think of every reason they might send us home, before he leaves his job for good. I don't have sleep apnea, but am overweight. We actually lost weight when we drove team at one time a few years ago. We decided to go on the "raw food" diet". It lasted several months, then when we broke the diet we never could get back on it. Basically, you don't eat anything cooked. We ate salad bars alot at Flying J. Have to find others now that Pilot took over and changed them all to Denny's. It was easy to follow on the truck. You can eat anything you want, so long as it is not cooked, and any quantity. Calories don't seem to count on it because my husband would eat tons of raisins and pumpkin seeds and lost more weight than me! My plan is to try the diet again. We have other family living in our house, so it has not been possible here. Thought getting on the truck would make it easier. I actually have put on weight in the 3 years since we stopped driving team! Thanks again for the reassurance!

in shippensburg, pa....they took my weight and height then measured my neck and said my bmi was a 36. And neck over 17. So they kicked me out of class and sent me home. said i needed a sleep test done to makesure i dont have sleep apnea. First time i have ever failed a dot physical and ever heard of measuring someones neck.

I just spoke to my recruiter, Scarlett, and she said that the Shippensburg, PA orientation is the only one doing that, and actually it is the doctor who does the physicals. She said they are looking into replacing the doctor and getting one who will not fail the drivers for BMI/neck size. She also said that if the new regulations come out this year from the FMCSA that the BMI/neck size test is in there as a requirement for drivers, so we all will be under it eventually, if it passes. The American Trucking Association has more information on the proposed changes on their website. We all need to email our congressman and senator and oppose these unnecessary changes to the laws. These new laws will hurt all of us and our companies, not to mention increasing the cost of everything anyone buys. Sometimes I have to wonder what our government is doing! (Just my opinion)

Bwajla, Scarlett said to contact your recruiter and see if you can go to an orientation somewhere else, like Tunnel Hill. You may still be able to and they won't give you any trouble about your BMI or neck size.

They have a drivers parking lot in Tunnel Hill. They also have a van that runs from 7 AM to Midnight that will drop you and pick you up just about anywhere. Your call on bringing the truck. The big plus is no Greyhound ride, the negative is eventually you will need to get it home. This is likely to happen after orientation as it usually takes a while to get a trainer. I got mine in two days but my wife took three weeks.
