Do I need a hazmat reg book in the cab in order to carry it?

Not sure about the Regulations (red) book but you do need the Emergency Response book (yellow/ orangish book) and its a good practice to put the Bill of Lading in that book at the corresponding page of the guide section (orange section) for the material you are hauling. I always carry all 3 books. (Green, red and yellow/orangish)

 

You should be able to and yes you have to have them within reach of the drivers seat just like your bills

Also, I believe if your company pulls Haz, they're obligated to furnish you a copy of said orange bible.

I could be wrong on that, but I don't think I am. I doubt it would fly as an excuse for why you don't have one in the truck, though.
