I got stuck in Montgomery yesterday due to some issues with my trailer, so I bobtailed over to the TA at exit 168--what a pleasant surprise! The first thing I noticed was that the lot was fairly clean--no trash laying around anywhere.
After debating whether to walk across the street to the fast food joints, or go inside to the restaurant and have something to eat, I decided on the restaurant--and I'm glad I did! I think that was quite possibly the best steak I have ever had--ANYWHERE.
I retired to the truck and went back in the sleeper, fully expecting a knock or two on the door from the local "ladies of the evening". Nope... apparently they have cleaned up this aspect too.
But wait... that's not all... (no I'm not going to offer a free set of Ginsu Knives, lol). I went in this morning to get my coffee and a giant box of Krispy Kreme to jump start my pancreas, and I notice... WTF? They have a cooler with meat and cheese and sandwich making items for reasonable prices! A half pound of medium cheddar for $3.19 (isn't that about what wally world charges?). Big cups of Winn Dixie yogurt for 25 cents!
So after my Krispy Kremes wore off, I went back inside to refill the coffee cup and see what else they had to snack on. Hmm... ice cream... and... a freaking $1.29 for a Nestle Drumstick? Have they fell on their head? Don't they know that the Flying Peelot up the road gets almost $3.00 for one of those? Well not that the Flying Peelot ever sells one. The 99 cent ice cream sandwiches are always gone, but the rest of their overpriced ice cream is chock full.
There wasn't hardly an ice cream in that cooler that was over a dollar. After paying $1.40 for a drumstick and a coffee refill (no, she didn't charge me for the coffee), I felt like I had robbed the place at gunpoint, lol.
Stop in and have a sirloin when John is working the grill, you'll be glad you did.

I don't think they can legally sell Winn Dixie yogurt there....
-
I stopped at the Flying J down at exit 158 to get a shower and checked their prices while I was there--sky high! I could care less if the TA was selling Piggly Wiggly brand, they are doing drivers right by not price gouging. -
I was there recently twice, once at night and the other during the day, at night I didn't have any problems, I guess the "Ladies of the Evening" are working days now. I was on the phone with a client and she comes up and starts pounding on my door, I waved her off. I did find nails, a bolt and other thigns that would puncture tires while walking across the lot.
The food is good there and also down at the TA at Grand Bay, AL. The New York Strip is better than the Sirloin, hope they keep it for a while. I also had some keys made in Montgomery and the guy behind the counter was helpful. Overall the staff is good there.lilillill Thanks this. -
Well this is a pleasant surprise!! That T/A has been OFF my radar for YEARS! Nice to know they squared the place away!

I've been there a few times.
The only problem I had with that TA was trying to get into/out of it during rush hour. -
Yeah it can be a royal PITA!! It's right there on US 82.. Busy 24/7. -
Glad too hear they cleaned that place up, the TA in Monkey Town used to be indian country...
