Been with Roehl for over two years. I run their 14/7 fleet. last trip out was 17 days. After 14 days I was stuck 300 miles from home for 28 hours. I got a dispatch that would have run me through home terminal(56 miles Out Of Route) but told by dispatch it was a 130 mile OOR. So dispatch lies, truck been in the shop twice and problem not fixed. Payroll failed to pay me for a load and then I only recieved half of pay and the rest to come next week. I hope.
All of the equipment needs to be sold off. Being 14/7(slip seat, three drivers, two trucks) you would assume this fleet would get the newest euipment because its running all the time. Newest truck I have driven? 2007. Actually drove one 2007 with less than 300k miles. That shows how much Roehl runs you. I've had problems at customers because they will only accept trailers less than 10 years old.
The major medical plan is cheap but doesn't pay much either.
If you are first starting out, Roehl may be a good place, but they have lots of rules for newbies.
I've been driving for over 12 years and looking for something better.

I have been at Roehl almost 10 years now and I must have missed all of the flaws you point out. I believe comments page you get with the load for the paper comp state to check your trlr age before you go into cust and to call in if to old to pick up. I will give you the dispatch will lie part, but then most companys do. and as long as the truck is legal to run and your name is not on the door what should you care. If the truck breaks down call it in and claim breakdown pay. when I was a comp driver the only tool I carried was a vicegrip and a cell phone

Too funny! Hell i think i have become a shadetree Trailer Mech myself, sometimes u just got to do what you gotta do and there isn't any time, If its serious work or if i cant get it to slide (one of my biggest problems) after working it for 45 mins. then i call for a shop, and if i can get it fixed, i call it in to be redflagged next time it comes through. I also carry a box of brake/turn signal lights as well, they are cheap and easy to change out. Maint, never had a issue reimbursing me for them.

But i will be the first to admit we got some S**tty trailers but so does just about everyone else.

Well if other drivers would acually call in broken equiptment I bet things wouldnt be as bad. Its like everyone grabs the good trailers when they D&H at a cons and then they leave the junk trailer sit and sit there. adventualy a driver will need to get that trailer because nothing elce is available. When that happens it sucks because nobody reported it and now your wasting hours because someone is lazy to call into maints.

It has always been that way with trailers, drivers should always take the oldest inspection date when they drop and hook. I have been into places to pickup trailers, to find them out of inspection because they have been sitting so long. If they would keep track of the trailers, they would assign you a trailer to pick up rather than just letting the driver pick one. I guess until everyone does their job, then it will continue to be a pain for everyone... Go figure.

Unfortunately not always do you get warned ahead of time that a trailer has to be less than ten years old. An illustration is Graphic Packaging in Middletown OH. Unless they have finally put it in the notes that place requires a newer trailer, but it was never in the notes. I had been there several times, so I knew. Dispatch argued with me, but I got the last laugh when another Roehl driver was turned away because his trailer was too old.

Lately I have also had problems with trailers that supposedly have been inspected by Roehl, yet have issues that require shop repairs. The last trailer I picked up had been inspected in April, yet it had an abs light that stayed on continually, had one mud flap rubbing the tires, another mud flap coming loose and a marker light that was out. Another trailer had tread peeling off down to the casing. Not only do drivers need to do better pre-trips, the shop needs to do a better job inspecting and repairing their equipment.
