Thank you G/Man. The way I see it is that i'm a days drive from tons of areas that have good amounts of freight coming in and also going back out so my deadhead could possibly be very low if I plan and time manage correctly. I knew about the whole you pick your load and all that stuff at LS I just dont know what they pay really. I will have to get a hold of them and get a print up but I will have to wait a while for that. I have only been back on the road for 6 months now and my old experience does not count anymore, unless they dont care about that and they will send it to me just trying to get good info and learn more about them.
So you want to "own " your own company

There rates will vary from one agent to another and one shipper to another. The time of year and type of freight hauled is also a factor with rates. Some of their agents have their own freight and others use brokers. It takes some leg work to find the agents who have the freight that meets your expectations or needs.

I did my Interstate Authority on-line yesterday and as soon as I clicked the pay button my phone started ringing and didn't stop ringing and then it started again at 8am. These scum bags wanted to do my IFTA filing and other paperwork, most wanted to sell me insurance and then the JB Hunt douche that wanted me to pull his cheap freight around. These guys must watch the FMCSA web site closely looking for their prey. At first I answered the phone then after they started the jive speech I would hang up but that got old so I just quit answering at all.

I forgot about the tool man!
Get used to your phone ringing bro... They won't give up until you talk to them and tell them to bug off. -
Hi I was wondering if you folks don't mind me asking a few questions on becoming an O/O... My story in short is I am soon to have my CDL and I am wanting to become an O/O myself. #1 I like the independence and #2 more money making opportunities... I was injured in a construction accident and with the settlement money I am thinking of buying a decent truck cash money and put the rest in a account to run the business...I am divorced my kids are grown and I have very low living expenses... Can any of you tell me should I try to find O/O's like yourselves to drive for initially to get my training experience or should I slither over to lets say Stevens or Werner to be abused until I have enough seat time so I get my own loads... In short do I take the advice from an abused glorified company driver with an Alliance lease or from the ones that can sit back and say no I am not going to a load for less than what I am willing to settle for... Just curious as the time is drawing nearing to make my decision any advice is much appreciated thanks in advance.

Big John you need have all calls picked up by voice mail. On the voice mail say "If this call pertains to soliciting IFTA filing and other paperwork services, or peddling insurance please place us on your NO Call List. Any solicitor leaving a message other than 'We've removed your name and number from our list,' will be posted on a Truckers Forum as companies who don't listen. Thank you."Big John Thanks this. -
I paid my UCR on line and printed the receipt. Will I get something else in the mail showing I have done my UCR to put in my permit book or I just put the receipt in there?

You will get no other receipts. Just print that out like you said and put it in your book.
Big John Thanks this. -
You are not supposed to need to put a paid receipt in your book, but it is a good idea.
