Hello everyone, my fiance and I are moving to South Carolina in July, and I was wondering if anyone could possibly direct us towards a good company. I'm currently a student at Kaskaskia College getting my CDL. I'll have all endorsements when I finish June 20th. I have no previous experience, no DUI's, no tickets in the past 5 years, no drug charges. I'm 24 years old, (25 in january) and have a solid work history with supervisor experience and references from previous employers. I'm hard working, decently intelligent and a quick learner. We would prefer someone with a lenient rider policy, and a pet policy would be nice but not necessary. If anyone could toss up a bit of advice, whether it be about trucking, companies or anything about the life of truckers and their wives, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

sounds like Roehl to me
gopackgo Thanks this. -
Whoever you choose keep your driving record clean. After you get 1 year in alot of doors will open for you.
-
I agree. Give Roehl a call. Been on my own for almost 7 weeks now with them. So far they have been an awesome company.
-
I just looked over the Roehl information. 14 on and 7 off? That seems like too much time off in my eyes. I like to work, and I like money. Not saying they're not a possibility, but is there anyone that would work me more?

If I remember their programs correctly the also have a 7/3 or 7/4 program as well. 2 trucks are shared by 3 drivers or something similar. Of course all 3 drivers need to live in the same vicinity, but I think Roehl helps coordinate it.

You won't have a problem finding companies that'll keep you out on the road, rest assured. There's plenty to choose from. Swift has a terminal in Greer, SC, and also runs flatbed boards out of there, if that appeals to you at all. You'll find plenty of work there, especially if you take a Utilimaster chassis load requiring 20 chains and binders.
fancypants and gopackgo Thank this. -
gopackgo Thanks this.

above all research every company in depth, ask questions (lots of them) from other drivers and the companies themselves. also RECRUITERS LIE threw their teeth.

Flatbed is something I'm interested in. I've talked with TMC and put my app. in there, waiting for a call back at the moment. And if Roehl will let me do 7 on and 2-3 off, that would be awesome. I was just worried that 14/7 wouldn't be enough miles or time. I'll be sure to look more into swift as well, thanks for the heads up. I've also took a slight interest in Transport America, J&R Schugel, and Maverick if anyone has any stories to share about them. I've taken into consideration most of the "good and bad" reports on the forums. But I do it with a grain of salt, after all, there's always going to be people that hate their jobs y'know?
