That's what I was thinking today. I do not like doing a job without the proper tools, and this is what's going on here. I was going so slow today testing out the saving fuel thing, that a gray western star, an O/O like the ones he was telling us were so much better at saving fuel than us, passed me like I was sitting still (along with nearly every other truck on the road) on 29 coming out of Iowa. He was pulling the same kind of container, and as it turned out, going to the same rail yard I was. By the time I reached Kansas City, I passed him again 15 miles from the yard. He already had another container hooked and was going back the other way. In light of this, I have named my truck Sloth.

My transmission has a shifter with the up/down buttons on the side. I couldn't get it shifting right today for some reason, possibly impatience due to doing 45 up half the hills on the 70mph interstate. Yes, really, it's that weak. I was thinking it'd be nice if there was an indicator to show what setting the transmission was on rather than the guessing I'm doing. Then I realized there's one by the shifter that says "loaded." It only comes on briefly when I turn the key on though, never while driving or messing with it. And god forbid they tie the suspension load gauge into the system so that it takes a little less than 200 freaking miles for it to figure out that it's loaded.

    UPDATE:

I found me a new job. Home daily. $18.00 hr., an additional $1.50 an hour for night shift. OT after 40 hours. 12 hour shifts, 6 on 3 off. $42.50 daily per diem in addition to hourly pay.

Hauling crude oil form the well to railcars.

I don't know, nor do I care how fast the truck goes, I get paid by the hour.

I guess you can call it Koolaid if you wish, but I would call it understanding the expectations and knowing I was agreeing to do it their way when I got hired.

Assuming they tell you. My company didn't. But then this is the first company I've worked for that was like this and they aren't really going to fire anyone for having bad mileage. I was looking at the numbers and I'm about in the middle of the field. One of the other KW's just like mine is at 60% overspeed and they haven't said a thing about it.

Well, came in to work this morning and they'd pulled it in to the shop while I was at home and turned it down again. Now it's maxed out at 64, cruise is set at 61, and I'm struggling to climb smaller hills at 48mph. Then dispatch calls wanting to know why I'm running late. So I told her. The so called fuel manager isn't in today, so she's going to talk to the guy that was sending out all the messages blaming us entirely for their trucks sucking. I might talk to them when I get back, might save the effort and pack my stuff.

The only way fuel rate should come into play is if at these speeds they are getting less than 5.5. And it should have been done a long time ago.

Also, insurance is starting to offer discounts to companies that govern trucks.

But a company going out of business because of fuel rates is going to go out of business for something else if not fuel. They don't know how to run a trucking company if that is the excuss.
