I have had Panic Attacks for as long as I remember. I have talked to many drivers over the years and found out that a lot of us have this problem. But for some reason we don't really talk about it. I want to know why. I think it helps to talk about it. What do you think?

If you're having panic attacks at any point while operating a vehicle or on-duty, you need to quit driving, get help, treatment, etc. 8 out of 10 of the primary causes of panic attacks are environmentally related (what you're putting yourself into) or self-caused due to lack of assertiveness or being overly and irrationally fearful.
Sorry, not to be judgemental, but like any other illness or major symptom that impedes your ability to do your job - operating a big arsed truck... it should not continue.trucker_101 Thanks this. -
haha they dont talk about it because they like working. If you tell your doctor you are having them you will not get a DOT physical card.

I have a BAMS degree in Psychology/Sociology, and have done peer counseling and alcohol/drug rehab counseling since the mid '80s.
I've learned plenty about the illness, have some opinions about the legitimacy of the diagnosis and some folks who claim this illness. If you have panic attacks, you have a condition which could and should disqualify you from driving. That's not my opinion, though, that's DOT regulation, with no judgement involved.Tazz Thanks this. -

Stating that there are many false claims by folks who have made a self-diagnosis, or improper diagnosis by a standard medical doctor with little or no experience in psychological health.
I'm assuming, correctly, that you have no idea how serious this actually is, IF it is truly the real scenario you're dealing with. I don't want a truck driver with the possibility of a panic attack driving next to my daughter and grandsons.
Are you really saying that someone has to go THROUGH a panic attack before they can see you about it, prescribe medicine, treatment, etc? I'd certainly hope not. I wouldn't want to be treated by a psych doctor who wasn't in good mental health himself.
No, I've never gone through it, but I'm sure that I've done more research, class time, formal reports and exams on the matter than you have. So, no, not narrow minded. Educated. Huge difference.
I've also never gone through it because I don't suffer from the two primary causes of panic attacks - overly fearful/phobias or environmentally caused stress. I don't put myself into those situations.
