Bingo. I'm not sure why, but my entire family cant stand the fact that I like trucking. College degree, former executive level corporate puke (laid off - cant find anything at that level anymore in my field), and now run a small insurance brokerage. When I got laid off in 07, it was the first time I had ever been laid off but realized that it was the best thing to ever happen to me.

Sitting in a cube farm with several thousand other drones, or even in my own office like I had in the last 12 years of my corporate life was eating me alive and I didn't know it until I was out of it. If you are not happy doing it, NO AMOUNT OF MONEY IS GOING TO MAKE IT BETTER. I did just over six figures in salary and hated life.

Whoever dies with the most money doesn't really win, the winner is whoever dies with the biggest smile on their face and sense of satisfaction.

Yeah thats true, I think my family doesn't want me to drive because i've wanted to be a police officer for a long time. But i just recently started working security and getting dressed up with a duty belt and bullet proof vest gets tiring after a 10 hour shift in the heat. After 3 or 4 days straight of working i'm worn out, i couldn't imagine doing it every week. I've also considered many different careers since i've been in college, so maybe they just don't think I am serious about driving.

I was making more at my last job-- and I hated getting up to go to work.

I don't always love trucking after 6 weeks out, but I enjoy it a lot more than I liked bookkeeping and I get to be with my better half 24/7 (usually a plus :biggrin_25525:). I have fewer bills because I got rid of the apartment and utilities.

I have two degrees and couldn't find anything that would pay me what that was worth, so I'd much rather be here. Long story short, do what you will love as long as those you love most will support you. Hard to do if your SO is set against it.

I have a 4 year degree. BS in Industrial Automotive Technology and a minor in Industrial Manufacturing Technology. Now I work on and drive trucks, buses, RV's, garbage trucks, yard spotters, and just about anything else that they want me to. You can only learn so much with books, then you have to go into the real world. My advice is stay in college forever. It is so much more fun then working.

I'll be lucky to make 25k with my schooling but I invested 4k into my college CDL program and now I'm making 50k. I could make a lot more but I actually enjoy seeing my wife and son. In fact, since you're a single guy, you should look into Hydrolic Fracing (West Texas oilfield). Their is guys bringing home 6k a month and it's not that hard of work.

Well, I was a criminal justice/fire science dual major for two years. Found out I was colorblind and that my career choice was pretty much shot, and I started driving. Glad I did, because I now make a lot more money than my friends that are graduating college, and some of them are cops. By all means, do what makes you happy. I still wish I could have finished school, but it wasn't in the cards for me.

Aaahhhh, so it was either teaching at a public school, customer service, or driving truck?
