So, how are miles at Central? I called to get info on their lease program and other info because I had talked with a fellow that had once completed a lease with them...so, I was sitting around bored, etc..but when I called, the recruiter said they were moving towards a more regional approach..having been around awhile, I generally have seen this as a negative with a lot of companies that results in lower miles for drivers or loads taken away at terminals, etc..

I apologize if I sounded harsh Mama mia. It was not intended that way.
I just see too many drivers out here, company and O/O that are spending more than they will ever be able to afford.
Everyone has the American dream, and the credit card company's have invested billions into getting everyone to think that it is their due.
I just hate to see people hurt themselves this way. You can live well and not be wealthy still. It is all in how you live and in many ways where you live.
Truckers are mobile. The pay is pretty well set in stone. No matter where you live you will make the same money.
This is where many mess up. They keep living in a high dollar area, when they could go to a much cheaper to live in area and live better.

I am messed up in that area as well. I live in a pretty darn cheap area. But it is not directly on a major freight lane. Closest is 40 miles away. No large intersection of interstates in the area either.
While my mileage rates are pretty well set. The chance to get home is not as good as in a better lane. Thus my quality of life is less. Due to less home time. Granted, even with that I am home most weekends and gross 1000+ most weeks. My wife is a teacher. Thus her income is about the same as mine. Fixed pretty close no matter where we live. But she is not ready to move from family. Since that would lower her quality of living.
And since she is home more than me I believe that it is her decision.

Trucking is what it is. It is recession proof for the most part as a company driver. If you have experience and a clean record you can always find a job. Also you can find work just about anywhere. Not many fields are like that.

Chrome, I didn't take it harsh. I know what you mean. We still have the same house because the economy still stinks. The house on one side was foreclosed and sits empty, and the one on the other side is for sale. One day we will sell and buy a home on a lake or river. We also keep it so the kids don't have to pay boarding in college. We all make our choices. I would definitely rather live in a place we love away from everything than on top of people.

My original comment about the fueling was just so people understand, you can choose to overfuel if you can see how the loads will shake out the next week just so you take a hit on a week with a lot of miles and end up fueling less the next week. Being on a dedicated route where you get to know the loads is helps tremendously. This would be more difficult on 48 states.

Except Central's regions seem to be east of the Mississippi and west of the Mississippi :biggrin_2556:

Do not get started on those advances. You will find it difficult to get away from them. Whatever you ask for this week comes out of next weeks pay.. everytime you fuel you will be given the opportunity to get $107. Hit the skip button...

Very true celtic. The $200 is a one time option that is taken back at $50 per week for 4 weeks. The $107 is only once per week and if you take it you the pump tells you how much you have left you can take. I agree dont use it. I set my students up with it but tell them to only use it if they need cash for tolls in a state that prepass doesnt work. that way if you do take it, you get reimburesed for it(if your company)

not only the way they tell you, but i just got one the other day that told me to get it in PA, IL, NE. all the while skipping Indiana, the cheapest state on the route and wyoming, the second best. so more than just looking at the stops, ask the fuel and permit dept. what the cheapest state is on your route and the cheapest stop in that state.
