When you get the fuel is not important in regardss to the surcharge, true enough, but WHERE you get it is very important, the cheaper you find it, the more you will save on fuel, especially if you can get it below the national average for that week.

You are paid on Wednesday morning. You can usually see your check on-line at the Central Ref site on Tuesday night. The $67.50 is per day, paid on a 7 day week. Usually if there are more trainers at one location than another they will fly or bus you to the trainer. I have heard of guys waiting for a trainer for a couple of days, but that is unusual. they want you in a truck the same day you graduate so you don't lose the info you got in school.Dennis the Menace said: ↑Thanks for the info Smadronia. It was very helpful. Just have to watch every penny even after you start getting paychecks. None of the recruiters ever mentioned the $100 before. I did have a few more questions though. What day of the week are drivers paid? And if you are paid $67.50 per day, is that for a 5,6, or 7 day week? Are you still driving for Central and, if so, how long? How long after school do you usually end up waiting on a trainer?Click to expand...Dennis the Menace Thanks this.

BTW, you request fuel on a mac17. I usually park where I want to get it and then send the mac. That way you can go in, use the restroom, get a soda or sandwich and the fuel routing will be there when you get back to the truck.Raincatcher said: ↑When you are assigned a load you will also receive fueling instructions as well as routing. Be sure to follow them both. If you are on empty you need to request fuel. They are not always accurate with the fuel routes,at least not with my truck.Click to expand...

The other thing to waatch is the roadtax that is taken out as a seperate line (o/o and l/o). The fuel can be cheap in a state like Alabama but you also pay 1.25 per gallon in road tax. Correct me if I am wrong on this, but that was what I was taught.Dieseljunkie said: ↑Do not let other people tell you how to fuel.....trust me. I made plenty of money leasing. Fuel is the number one expense but its how you fuel. If its dirt cheap fill it up. BUT ONLY IF YOU CAN GET THAT RED LIGHT ON BY PAY CUTOFF. If I'm in phoenix and I gotta go into California.... I buy enough to get me into California and back out. Even if I have to "overfuel". Because I would rather pay 3.93 in Arizona then 4.49 in California. Does that make sense.....write me a personal message if you want more tips. I promise I can help you make money. Especially if you have a smartphone.Click to expand...

no you only get charged 0.01 cpm for road tax. That extra line is a 0.34 processing fee for fueling somewhere other than what was given to you on fuel routing. If we went to what was on the fuel stop list, we wouldnt get charged the 0.34.nomadtrucker said: ↑The other thing to waatch is the roadtax that is taken out as a seperate line (o/o and l/o). THAT is why you have an idle problem. If they don't let you off on the over-idle, take the issue to the terminal manager. I got a bad load of fuel in Missouri once and the fuel started gelling even with anti-gel in them. OTRM told me to dump in a couple of bottles of 911 and DO NOT shut off the engine. I informed my dm and he forgot later when the percentages come out. I reminded him and they didn't charge me for it.Raincatcher said: ↑I actually mentioned that the system must be wrong,he said there was no way it could be wrong.,the system gets a signal each time the ignition is turned on. Then I reminded him I had spliced all 487 wires back together after the qualcom cord had been severed (don't ask). He still insisted it couldn't be wrong and said it showed the engine had been running for the past 72 hours straight. I couldn't get through to him that I had not been idling since I got dinged the first time and asked him what I was supposed to do to keep warm when it was 16° up in Minnesota when I had been idling. He said "use your bunk heater" " ...ummm,it doesn't work, remember?" He insisted he didn't know,I sent a mac31 and include it on my Mac 9 every day. Then he insists I inform him of these issues and not bother OTRM with non-mechanical issues.
Not the brightest light on the family tree...Safety is looking into it...Click to expand...
Flying J had been plowing their parking lot and the fuel cap came off and they dumped a LOT of snow in the underground fuel tanks. I had to change the fuel filter 3 times to clear out the water.Raincatcher Thanks this. -
I have gotten mac11 instructions that say not to go into the shipper with full tanks. That is usually for beer or meat loads. I got one where I was at maximum with 3/8 tank of fuel and had to calculate the weight of fuel across 5 states so I could get to 99. It also helps to run those loads at night or weekends. Most of the scales are closed then.celticwolf said: ↑That is bad advice. You never want your tandems heavier than your drives. That can cause your trailer to start whiplashing. Furthermore most shippers want your tanks full before they remove the excess weight.
You can ask fuel/permits for heavy load fuel routing or you have the shipper remove product.. I have done both without issue.Click to expand... -
They also have a mac22 when it looks like you are going to be late for hometime. You can also contact safety in the case of your license expiring and they will ride your dm like a cowboy. I guess you love the road being out for 7 weeks at a crack. WOW, I did 8 weeks once and now have decided that once per month is just fine. BTW, you don't get extra days off for extra time out. You can get a maximum of 4 days off for being out 4 weeks. You get 4 days for 8 weeks also, no change. Just thought I would mention that.MaryK said: ↑The art of home time... WHAT IS THAT?? and how do you get there??? I am obviously new and don't want to freak out on anybody <I do but my BF won't let me>. My temp license expires on Sunday and we get to go 400+ mile out of route to swing in to get the new ones. So we can make our apt in TX on Saturday. We have been out for 7 weeks. and yes we have asked sent the mac 21 for the 13-14th and have reminded our DM. He's the 1 that said to swing by the house.. Just a little vent sorry!!Click to expand...Lady K, MaryK and Dennis the Menace Thank this.
