My bad...Your right...on the 919, 929, 99 there is a knob on the far right that just says "Power"...And Yes, thats for turning down your DK (or turning it up to whatever the radios Max DK is set at)

So yeah, you can go pick one up at the Truck Stops and "Plug-N-Play!"

Turning it down shouldn't affect the max swing when modulating either...

    Galaxy 93t uses a "HI-Med-Low" switch...

    Turbo-T Thanks this.

Thanks. I've been hoping to find a radio that I can use both with and without an amp that doesn't require modding the radio.

I can't remember if it was General lee or Connex, but I believe they also have a "high/low pwr" switch on them?

General Lee & Connex 3300 are almost identical, both have a hi/low switch...but make sure you know what they are set at. It all depends what kind of amp you are driving too. You can put a 4w deadkey into a 2x2879 amp with no problems...

I figured the typical 2 pill amp would be what I'd run.

With what transistors? MRF455, SD1446, SC2290, SC2879...I'm sure there is more. That all makes a difference on input drive.

My General Lee I have the "Low" set at 2w's, and the "HI" set at 5w... You can run some 2-pill box's with a 4w DK, but IMO the set-up usually sounds better with a 2w DK. Plus 2w's is not as hard on the Amp...

I found a Galaxy DX 44V radio for sale for $100. CB review didn't make this out to be a big talker and only stated it had a 1969 final good for 25 watts of modulation.

Anyone have a testimonial on this radio?

Well is there a chart somewhere that shows how much of a deadkey you only want per what ever type of pill being used?

    I had a Palomar 300 Elite with 2 pills in it, SD1446's I believe.

OK, I have found that the Galaxy radios DON'T stay on frequency very well. They do like to drift.

Are you talking about hearing a frequency change on SSB or just watching the counter shift digits on AM? Personally for an AM/FM only model it would be better if the counter was only 5 digit instead of 6. Since the channel is 10 KHZ wide seeing resolution down to 100 Hz is not really needed and to me it is annoying to see it go from 49 to 50 to 51 or thereabouts since you would have to shift a KHZ or more to really hear much difference in the signal. The counter shifting the last or 6th digit could really only be reflecting a change as low as 30 Hz due to the way it counts. Also you are dealing with slight drift not only in the radio but also in the counter itself, meaning the problem is usually less than it appears. All this adds up to a radio looking more annoying by watching the 6th digit than it is performing on AM. Using a 6 digit counter for a model without SSB was a bad idea right from the start by the designer of the radio as it only serves to make it appear more annoying than what you would be able to tell by operating it. Later they rethought this and added a button to turn off the 100 Hz digit in a few models.
