So i want to be a trucker later,when im older

Being a mom wants to say... NO!! Don't go there! haha BUT... you can also drive locally. Which might give you an idea of what it's all about. It's tough work too.

My 9 year old wants to drive, so I told him to drive his hot wheels. haha

You've still got time before you decide what you want to do with your life...so in the meantime, enjoy being young.

Class A means you can drive just about anything no motorcycles unless you have the endoresment no busses unless you have that endorsment

Class B is for dump trucks conctrete mixers

Endorsements are extras that you can put on your license they are doubles/tripples, tanker, hazmat you can get the tanker/hazmat combo.

Doubles= two trailers pulled by one truck or tripples= three trailer pulled by one truck

Tanker is a tank on wheels

Hazmat is alot of things that that a trucker can carry examples hairspray, oil, gas, paint, chemicals, coffee creamer, etc

 

If you have the means, its much easier to go down, than to go up. For example, I did not have the money to finish med school, thus why I am driving a truck. Now lets say I become a doctor, I find it boring, I can always go back to driving a truck. But it would be alot harder for me to become a doctor.

 

Man, some of you guys are extremely depressing.

Life is all about what you want out of it. Some people would hate to go to college and get a degree or become a doctor or a lawyer. I'm one of them. I worked in IT in a cubicle for 6 years and finally got sick of walking through the door to sit down at my life-draining job and decided to quit. I wanted to see the country. I wanted to have more freedom. I wanted to live my life the way I wanted. Period. And that's what I do now. Sure, there are bad days. Being held at a shipper for 6 hours sure does suck, and getting bad loads is never fun, but c'mon. Stop being so morose about truck driving. Why are you even here if you despise it so much? I just turned 25 years old and feel like I'm on top of the world for the first time in my life. And you know what? It's thanks to truck driving.

If you want to drive a truck, drive a truck. Don't let anyone ever tell you something is better for you. They aren't you. It might sound cliche like something you hear in a kindergarten class....but truly...you can be anything you want to be. If that means being a truck driver, go for it. Live your life to the fullest and don't let others make you believe that this is some kind of job only for college rejects and dumb people and people who failed at their careers or didn't meet their potentials or didn't live up to their parents expectations. There are some of us out there who got sick of the corporate world and the business men in suits and decided to pack a suitcase and hit the road. The only thing I hate about truck driving is the constant negative attitude that a lot of other truck drivers have (I mean really, quit ######## and quit if you don't like it, you won't be missed), but the job itself I love and wouldn't trade it for the world. Truck driving is 100% about your attitude. If you wake up every day ready to complain at the drop of a hat, you'll hate your life and your job. And if there's one thing in this world, and especially this country that's contagious...it's negativity.

Godspeed and keep your eyes wide open. It's a big world and you really can do whatever you want with your life.

I don't know your age, but if you are under 13, Take time to study while in school. Learn everything you can about computers and remote control functions and biotics.

Current trends and testing are about to relegate the "truck" driver to the status of Engineer and brakeman.

Test are currently/were being run on remotely guided/driven combinations that call for only 1 driver to be in the command vehicle of about 2-15 rigs, the other drivers are mearly in the cab in case of a hardware or software failure that forces them to take control of the unit they are riding in.

Much like the German testbed for cars, the US is/was testing convoys of trucks along the I-5 corridor. Using radar detection for spacing and speed control between vehicles. Additional hardware was being tested to maintain lane control without driver input from the "driver" in the cab. Only the lead driver needed to do the actual steering.

Science and Computers are in the future...study hard.

 

Don't worry, your dream doesn't have to be spoiled yet. Yes, electronically controlled convoys are an interesting idea that might come to pass, but that doesn't mean the end of trucking. You are too young to remember this, but when VCR's were invented, naysayers were convinced that movie theaters were going to go out of business. I don't know where you live, but in my town of 1000 people, our movie theater is still in business, and many new ones have been built in a 30 miles radius. There will always be a need for truck drivers. But in the meantime, learn everything that you can. Are there any local companies in your area that you can hang around? From the time that I could walk, I was running around trucking yards. Find a company that would like to take you on. Learn what you can, do the grunt work for them, and keep your eyes open.

The next 6 years of your life are very important. You might change your plans dozens of times, and then ultimately decide that trucking is for you. Keep your mind open, and your eyes and ears too. Above all, complete your education! Even if you decide that college isn't for you, a high school diploma is necessary for everything in life!

Do your parents and your uncle support your dreams of trucking? If so, that is great. If they don't, don't lose hope. Over the next six years, learn all you can so you can present your dream to them in a concise and logical fashion. Show them that you can make the living that you want by being a truck driver.

I agree with you. That is one of the wonderful things about this country-you can be anything that you want to.

This is a great life for some people, and other people's worst nightmare. Figure out what kind of person that you are, and then go for it. And if you change your mind, change your career. You are never stuck doing something that you don't want too unless you are lazy.
