Katey, you graduated 1 year after I did!!!

Darkstar, say "Hi" to everyone from Anna Wells.....really need to pop down there when I'm home sometime...Crowder is only a 30 minute drive.

I was the guinea pig for the online classes last year....did those at home and then had one-on-one with Darren.....sometimes I worked with Kelly, Janice, or Gilbert. John helped me work on my pre-trip.

    Darkstar Thanks this.

Hey all. I am starting at Crowder on Tuesday the 31st. Very excited to change careers. Will hopefully be going to Conway. Everything I here about this school and Conway are great!

Good luck! The teachers are great and the somehow, you will finish week 1 and think how long the next month will be.

Suddenly, you will be starting week 5, still have a road trip to do, plus the skid pad and still have to take your test and be thinking how fast it all went.

Tell Janice that Tom Bernardo says hi and as soon as I come through the area I will be ready to do the slalom course in reverse.

If you have questions about Crowder, Conway, or the road feel free to put them up here. I usually get in every couple of days and others will answer too.

    Be safe...RR

just looked at the crowder web site. looks and sounds interesting. If i was to go what do they do for out of state students? houseing food ect

don't think 5 weeks is a full semester lol. do any companys like conway front the bill if you are prehired? I like the idea of a private school not a company mill. looks like they work with alot of companys.

i really am looking for a solid foundation in a new carreer also anyone know if conway runs thier training as a team or is the teacher awake while you drive?

    Hiya blktop-bucanear!
I recently went through Crowder as an out of state Con-Way prehire so I'll do my best to answer all of your questions.

If you so desire, you can stay in a dorm (with other trucking students only, not the kids from the regular college) for the 5 weeks you are there. The cost is $595 and includes 3 meals a day on the week days and 2 on the weekends (brunch and dinner). The dorms are not in awesome condition but they are decent for the price. This also gives you use of the address for when you get your Missouri CDL the day you graduate.

I don't know about all the companies but if you go in with a prehire from Con-way you have to come up with around $2300 to cover your portion of the tution and things like the dorm cost, physical cost, licensing fees and other such things. They commit paying the other half of your tuition assuming you get hired and pull your first load. If you do not get hired and pull a load you are required to pay Crowder the rest of the money yourself.

I really believe Crowder is a great place to go to school. The teachers there are awesome and the teacher to student ratio is better than most schools. They also have the skid pad which is a really eye opening experience. The facilities are not fancy but they are in decent condition and the trucks are kept in good working order and pretty clean.

As far as the Con-way end goes, they are the only company I have ever had any real interaction with but I am impressed with how they run their business. They treat drivers with respect, they give us good miles, and the equipment and facilities are well maintained. For training you will NEVER drive team, your trainer will be in the jump seat at all times when you drive.

I hope this information has helped, feel free to post more questions here or send me a private message.

katey you are totaly awsome:biggrin_25519:. great info I guess time to start getting serious.
get my dot physical, learners permit, start calling companys and schools. ie conway and crowder.

my local school is a real small outfit and costs $5000. no frills just enough to get vt cdl. good student ratio but no parallel parking no skid pad they do have a simulator i think first in vt to get one. sounds like from quite a few around here crowder is a good choice. thanks again

Roadrealtor, do you ever get on here anymore? Or are you on a different thread these days. Can't believe it is going on two years since we graduated. Change my log on name to my handle. Hollar at me. Truman

Fat Kid, Great to hear from you!!! I usually check out more active threads these days, mostly Conway threads, but will check out others. Yeah man, two years, all safe, hope yours have been too.

Was trapped in Ardmore, OK with a breakdown a few weeks ago, and thought to check to see if you were in the area, and then got side tracked by a nap in a real hotel bed.

I have been fighting some health issues for 6 months, and winning the fight, so had a limited schedule. Will be out in full force next week, looking for new students to steer wrong. I am a finisher now.

I stay in touch with Tim. He quit trucking and settled in Florida about an hour from me. Looks like I may have him talked into coming back and being a finisher too.

Stay well bud, stay safe, stay in touch. Will let you know when I hit that KS to OK corridor again.

    RR
