What you are referring to "equivelent to the 10 hour break" is split breaking. This is the exception to the 10 hour consecutive break.
When reading the page you read, if you looked above that it was discussing the 10 hour consecutive break. It's all the way they word their stuff sometimes can throw a person off, YES ME TO
(g)(1)(i)(A) Must, before driving, accumulate
(1) At least 10 consecutive hours off duty;
(2) At least 10 consecutive hours of sleeper-berth time;
(3) A combination of consecutive sleeper-berth and off-duty time amounting to at least 10 hours; or
Notice the above and then as it goes to four it states if you do not compy with paragraph ******* # 4 is discussing the split breaking option
(4) The equivalent of at least 10 consecutive hours off duty if the driver does not comply with paragraph (g)(1)(i)(A)(1), (2), or (3) of this section;
You can not drive more than 11 hours after the 10 hour consecutive break or more than 11 hours until you have completed the 2nd break of the 10 hour split break. (when split breaking you never drive a full 11 after you have completed the 2 split breaks. You add up the hours in between the 8 & 2 minimum and subtract that from 11 & that's how many hours you can drive (as long as the 14 allows you) see my split breaking sheet, which might help explain more as well.
(g)(1)(i)(B) May not drive more than 11 hours following one of the 10-hour off-duty periods specified in paragraph (g)(1)(i)(A)(1)-(4) of this section; and
Once you had a 10 hour break; you can only drive 11 hours. But you can drive more than 11 hours in any "day". The time driving after that 10 hour break will be counted against your 11 going into the next day. So if I drive 2 hours prior to midnight, I only have 9 more hours I can drive until I take a full 10 hour break again (or split break)
(g)(1)(i)(C) May not drive after the 14th hour after coming on duty following one of the 10-hour off-duty periods specified in paragraph (g)(1)(i)(A)(1)-(4) of this section; and
Notice it says you can not DRIVE after the 14th hour, you can be on line 4 past the 14th hour.
(g)(1)(i)(D) Must exclude from the calculation of the 14-hour limit any sleeper berth period of at least 8 but less than 10 consecutive hours.
You don't have to exclude the 8 hour sleeper break as long as you take a 10 at the end of your 14th hour. This would be wasting one's time, but if you choose to ignore it you can.
(g)(1)(ii) Specific requirements. The following rules apply in determining compliance with paragraph (g)(1)(i) of this section:
I explain the 11 & 14 and then I explain the exception which is split breaking.
They are 2 different rules/explinations. They are both fairly easy.
My challenge is to get drivers to understand split breaking so therefore I will always be preaching this![]()

I was on Werner site the other day and they have a PDF example of split break logging.

It is coming up blank on my computer. I would be interested in seeing what they have put together as well. I wonder if it is the DOT examples they have on their websites. These usually do not explain well enough on an on going basis of split breaking. Like mine, but @ least mine does throw in the real day of fueling etc. That's my point to get across to drivers, you can still stop and eat, fuel etc. it just cuts into your day.

Just remember: Once you enter lines 3 or 4 you have 14 hours to get your 11 hours of driving in and if you don't get the 11 hours done before the 14th hour, YOU ARE DONE! Unless you split break! Or unless you have an exception like adverse weather explains -
