72 Hour DOT this week...... HOW BAD IS IT???

It sounds like we should turn this time of year into an unofficial truck's holiday

 

Im a bit of a conspiracy guy myself. Im not down with the cell phone checking and things like that but here is something to think about. With the CSA2010 stuff going down and the governments very strong want to cram the mexican driver program on us is this year a chance to really try to push some drivers out with the CSA scores and artificially create the "driver shortage" again making it look like the country cant survive without bringing in the Mexican carriers to pick up the slack.Kind of fringe thinking but food for thought considering our government doesnt seem to be above anything these days and inspections can really go a long way to damage a drivers career now even if its just miniscule silly stuff.

 

If they were on the ball, the guys that are always trying to organize strikes would do it during this period. It is funny to think of all those lonely bears and DOT cops sitting in coops and beside the road with nothing to do.

Well the boss said he needs me tomorrow...at least I'll be spared the boring yard. Hopefully everything will be cool, we actually do very little driving. So fingers crossed.

 

Just do a Google search and look up the official statistics and news. Every year they put fewer trucks out of service. TA and Petro are offering free mid-trip inspections during this three day blitz. Relax, get your ducks in a row and you should be fine. It's possible you won't even get inspected. Other states use the extra money for inspectors to keep the coops open during the entire 72 hour period instead of closing at five. In Illinois you're more likely to get inspected on a Sat. morning at the Litchfield scale or the Williamsville scale on Tue or Thur afternoons.

About the phone, if you're worried about it, get a go-phone (I keep one as a spare for my Android, as I can move my SIM card over in a pinch) and keep the battery out. Then hand IT over to the nice DOTpolizei if/when asked for it.

I've got a better idea... tell the nice man to pound sand (nicely ) if they ask for your phone. They can have mine when they can produce a court order for it.

 

some people will believe #### near anything--
a good idea would be to hide your phone in your white sheets in the bunk
anybody stupid enough to hand over anything more than your license--permit book and log book deserves a ticket
