Hey all,
Well I finally got time to fill out the application for Swift, for the second time. Originally back when I got my CDL they wouldn't hire me because I was 22, and I had to be 23 now that I just turned 24 yesterday I shouldn't have any issues. But the funny thing is, no sooner had I pushed the 'Submit Application' button that I had 3 recruiters call me out of Phoenix :smt017 (which I guess goes to show ya....). The winner was a younger guy who explained I would have to finish 240 hours of drive time, there are 3 days of orientation of which I will get a lunch paid for by the company. The pay is 450/wk for 28 days after that the pay will go up to 500/wk (this is while with a mentor)....
I was given his 'personal number' and he sent me an e-mail with some forms I have to fill out. Now I've done my research and I am going in with an open mind regardless of what I have read. I have no experience so let's see what happens.
I am looking at going into it in July at the Syracuse, NY Terminal as soon as I get everything settled here at home.
Any input/comments or tip & tricks would be greatly appreciated...
Going with SWIFT...

The best advice I can give you is to follow the rules to the T, even if you don't completely understand them or agree with them. Get in good with the planners by accepting EVERYTHING that comes along as long as you have the hours to get the load to the receiver on time. It's aggravating to get a preplan for short miles but, trust me, those "shorties" are usually followed up with a plan that will get you some good miles.
Get rest at every opportunity. Take care of the equipment. DO NOT try to overshoot your ability as a driver.
If you find yourself in a jam (making a wrong turn, get out of route, etc) find a safe place to STOP, then regroup and move the truck ONLY when you have a good plan to get back on track.
Sign up to get preplans via text message.
DO NOT go into a shipper's/receiver's office unless you look like you give a rat's ### about yourself and the freight.
Plan well!!! Make the most of your Line 3 but don't forget that you need to shut down early enough to get a parking spot and get yourself prepared (rest-wise) for tomorrow.
Use your head!!!!
Good luck, Oldnew...tmax156, Everett, TruckermanD and 6 others Thank this. -

I didn't even realize that I had posted it here since I was doing this on my phone.
I guess if an admin want's to move this thread to the proper section that'd be fine, I'd move it myself but don't know how.. -

Anyone working for Swift could you tell me if Solo drivers run all 48 states? I was looking at US Xpress just for Sh..s and Giggles and saw that Solo drivers run mostly East Coast (Where I am from) and parts of the Mid-west where as Teams run all 48..it all depends on what state you are from....with USX
