To me it is not about the company protecting its self. It is about being put in a group and saying everyone is the same. Same kind of body type. My last job I lifted 1000 to 15000 lbs a day of siding. Some of it I had to carry to the back yard. I did a lot more work then just driving a truck. But because I weigh 350 lbs I cant drive. Where is that fair.

Rollover the Original, Eskimo6804 and ptropixxx Thank this.

I know a body-builder that runs around with almost no body-fat and even less during training for a show. The guy is as solid as a rock, but still weighs more than the big bad BMI chart says he should. Go figure....

I just pulled this up and had to laugh. Eating is something you have to do but this is not. So why should these people have more rights then me.

I think everyone who smokes should take one too.
Diagnosing Sleep Apnea
In order to diagnose sleep apnea, your doctor will probably send you to a sleep disorders center for testing. You may be asked to spend a night or two at the center, where experts will monitor your sleep. A sleep study test (polysomnography) will determine if you have sleep apnea and how severe it is. If you are diagnosed with sleep apnea, you may benefit from both lifestyle changes and specific medical treatment.
Lifestyle Changes
- Lose weight Overweight persons can help treat their sleep apnea with even moderate weight loss. For instance, a 200-pound man can lose 20 pounds and greatly reduce the number of breathing pauses.
- Avoid alcohol and sleeping pills Both alcohol and sleeping pills slow down breathing and make sleep apnea symptoms worse.
- Sleep on your side or stomach Some people suffer from sleep apnea only when lying on their backs. Try using pillows to avoid sleeping on your back.
- Quit smoking Cigarette smoking increases both the risk and the severity of sleep apnea, by causing swelling and excess mucus in the airways and by damaging the lungs.

I am new to trucking. I understand, and empathize with most of you that this lifestyle is very challenging in keeping a 'moderate' weight size.
But, I also see a lot, ALOT, no, wait, a MAJORITY of drivers who simply neglect their bodies, do not exercise out of pure laziness.
Being obese has numerous risks when you consider higher rates for heart disease, a potential stroke while you are driving (of which you are a threat to the general public with a 79 thousand pound vehicle.)
equally to blame is the truck stops that do not offer any solutions to eating healthier. I have not seen prepared salads at any truck stops, except many flying J having prepared tuna sandwiches and they were horrible
Anyways if you want suggestions and tips on being fit, pm me, I am fit, I work out everyday while on the road, I do what I can as much as possible and I still have a below average bmi, Get out there guys and walk for 1/2 hour a day and you will feel better and lose weight. -
