I myself am currently looking into Swift. I am speaking with a recruiter and have heard both good and bad things about them.

I am waiting to hear if it is going to be a go for Jonestown next month.

I believe it is how the DM treats you is what makes it a good experience or not.

I was with SWIFT 4 weeks ago, I quit. Nothing bad, my DM is a cool guy. I get along with everyone there at my terminal. After hardship of 240hrs OTR training with a mentor, pay is .25cpm for new drivers. I quit because of their "Family Plan Program", I cannot take the truck home and I live about 200 miles away from the terminal. Average $200-500 a week, pay is on time, and correct every Tuesday. I think every company about the same.... if you are a new driver, they want to know if you could really run before they release you from probation period. I don't make money because child support and medical take all. LOL My DM understood my situation. Who know, one day, I'll go back to SWIFT as an experience driver. SWIFT is a good company to start out.

Well, I am based in San Diego. But I very seldom get that way.
I run all 48, and usually get nearly that many.
But, you know, it all depends on how the freight is running.
You get in an area that has few loads, and you are stuck for days. Then you get in an area that has loads out the backside, and you are running 24/7.
It's like being a pinball, going wherever the paddle sends you.
It's a truckers life...
So far I have not had a problem with home time requests. It may be a few days later than my requested date, but they get me there.
"But, you know, it all depends on how the freight is running."
We, as drivers, have to understand this one simple fact!
I am out here to do a job - moving loads from one place to another.
The planners are doing a much more complicated job.
They have to move those loads, while moving the drivers to where they want to be.
Not an easy thing to do, to say the least!Cochise, TruckermanD and venne Thank this. -

Hey all, just a small update.
A local job popped up that I had applied for a few months ago before making my decision to jump on with Swift. It turns out the position is open again and the reason being, because the driver they chose over me did not know how to drive. So I just re-applied and now I shall sit and wait and hopefully they give me a chance.
If that doesn't go well, then I will continue my journey with going to Swift in July (or whatever start date I am given).
