I turned on my cobra 29 with bluetooth cb this morning and its acting funky. I used to be able turn up the volume half way and i would be able to hear it fine. Now i gotta crank the volume to the max. also my squelch control isnt working. Also I have noticed that the built in swr/rf meter when its set to to the s/rf mode on the switch and my rf gain is on the lowest setting. I called for a radio check got a pretty clear response and he was about 4 exits in front of me. Anyone have any thoughts, is my cb on the fritz and should it be sent back to cobra?

If its on the fritz what a disappointment i really enjoy the bluetooth on my cb:biggrin_25510:. I just wish it had weather too

    Sounds like a warranty issue.

I'm just curious..... I have a Bluetooth headset for my phone, and I see the obvious advantages of it despite the fact that I truly don't like it, but just what in the world is Bluetooth on a CB used for and why is it necessary?

    • Bluetooth® Wireless Technology Allows you to make and receive phone calls through the CB radio with most Bluetooth phones.
    • One-Touch Bluetooth Operation Allows answering and terminating call with a push of a button.
    • Loud and Clear Incoming Audio Phone calls are heard through the 5 watt CB speaker.
    • Noise Canceling Microphone Allows crystal clear communication in a noisy environment.
    • Auto Redial One-touch redial of last phone number dialed.

    MilkMan Thanks this.

I have a Cobra 29 LTD BT Bluetooth and sometimes people don't hear me well. People say I sound distant. The blue tooth connection is rock solid and even at 500 ft from my truck I have had to turn the blue tooth connection off because it would stay connected at that distance.

(BTW, I don't use it while driving.)

I bought one of those radios when they first came out...I don't like headsets, and thought it was a good concept.

I found, though, that it was poorly executed.

In order to talk on the CB, you have to have the mic gain turned up a little or else people can't really hear you. However, when making a phone call, the mic gain has to be ALL of the way down, or else it picks up too much background noise. Constantly playing with the knobs every time a phone call starts or ends gets old pretty quick.

The complaint I hear the most is the people I'm talking to can hear themselves echoed back...they are hearing the sound coming from the speaker, picked back up through the mic. The mic is NOT "noise canceling"....at least in phone mode, it isn't. I have set the mic in the center of the dash and stood outside the truck fueling and the mic STILL picked up my voice well enough to carry on a conversation.

What could be made better? How about an ACTUAL noise canceling mic? I've been waiting for Astatic or Road King to make a replacement mic for the bluetooth CB's to see if that would help....sure couldn't get any worse. I haven't seen them yet...

The other thing that would have eliminated a lot of the problems I have with this radio is if they would not have made the mic hot when in phone mode. I remember old house phones had a "mute" button on them, so that when that button was held the mic wouldn't pick up any noise. Why couldn't they have made the CB mic work the same in phone mode as it does in CB mode....that it is muted until you key up to talk...then when you are done talking, you can release the button and the mic is muted so that background noise (and the person on the other end's voice coming through your speaker) is not picked up and echoed back through the line? Granted, a TRUE noise canceling mic might not have that problem.....but still...

Like I said....adding bluetooth to the CB in order to make & receive phone calls was a GREAT concept, but poorly executed.

Doug at custom CB radios modifies Astatic 636 mics to work with this radio while keeping the bluetooth function.

Where's that at & how much? I've used Astatic 636 mics almost exclusively with every radio I've had.....except this one.
