Do you ever listen to Kevin Rutherford on XM??? He has some great ideas for improving fuel economy. Check out his forum on letstruck.com. Lots of drivers on there with ideas. -
rutherford is nothing but a product endorsement #####. hell put his name on anything they pay him for. he has zero credibility.
and i believe his name is EvanSHC, SL3406, oneshot and 1 other person Thank this. -
MedicineMan Thanks this.

I do agree with MM... I don't care for Rutherford either. He endorsed the 3000D and I put two of them on 2 different trucks, and it did not gain a single 1/10th in the mpg. Also, he suggest driving 55mph is better that 60mpg EVEN when CAT says the best rpm range is in the 60mph zone for said truck. I was able to get 6.5mpg at 60, and when I drove 55mph, the MPG went DOWN to 5.9 as the engine was lumbering along at 1100rpm. But he still swears that 55mph will get you better MPG no matter what RPM you are at??? I called in to argue with him, and he just cut me off and then I listened on air and he said we had a bad conncection and I need to call in when i am not on my cell phone. I was sitting at home on my landline LOL!!!! what a ###### tool.
outerspacehillbilly, Nevs and SL3406 Thank this. -
It's funny. Doesn't matter that the sweat spot is based on many different factors, including load and terrain. So to say a single speed is the best is ignorant. The study on this out of U of WI in the 70's made a point of saying that even on the test units that the sweat spot changed as tires heated, engine oil heated and aged, rear-end temp and over time. And several years after added that when testing with different loads that the sweat spot changed.
But he has a radio show and a web site so he must be right.SHC Thanks this. -
SHC Thanks this.

Hey SHC you need to check your boost gauge in the flats when your truck hits a slight undulation in the highway. The cruise will have it boosting 20-25psi when 15psi from your right foot will be all you need to keep your momentum. It takes a lot of concentration to beat the cruise on mpg's but over time becomes second nature. Check your boost gauge on slight hills and rises with the cruise on then test to see how much better you can do with the foot. Takes concentration and focus but it's not impossibly difficult.

My engine temps are never over 190*, my boost stays low, the truck idles very smooth and the RPM taps out at 2300rpm (engine block label says 2150) so I'm guessing here, but even so, going back to my super light loads, I will be back into the 6.2-6.5mpg range again, and I will not need any more power to pull the 4,500 pound loads LOL so an $800 tune can wait a while
