Good barbecue from a northern state? I must seek this out for myself, because I have yet to find it.

Whats that place outside of austin, tx? lochart maybe?
anyway they would tear off the old brown butcher wrap paper and give you a pack of crackers and pickles or hot pepers and you would sit at long picnic tables! Old white building were the wooden floors creaked when you walked on them..
    BEST I EVER HAD!!
Too me barbecue is definetly BRISKET! and none of this "pulled" stuff.
also like beef ribs ! AUSTIN has a place on east 1rst st. called The IRONWORKS, GREAT BEEF RIBS! Comes with 3 ribs ... Nice place!

    Lonestar956 Thanks this.

I've had Soulman's a couple times and I will try these other TX and LA and AR places because Soul was missing a bit.

I'm always on the hunt for good BBQ ... Texas Best is not it, edible at best. Soulmans is OK. Bodacious is fair.

KDs on I20 in Midland, exit 138, is pricey but worth it ... not a truck stop, but they have parking.

Absolute worst, is the Flying Pig in Winnamuca, down the street from the Flying J. Fair resturant, but they have no business calling themselves a BBQ.

Now this isn't BBQ as it's a deli/BBQ smokehouse/C-Store but I know one is located just off I-45 between DFW and Houston called Woody's Smoke House located on top of a hill in a shell station next door to Jack in the Box. They have a chopped BBQ beef sandwich to kill for. It's a bit pricey for the size but will handle that hunger pain for a plus size guy and I never want to get back on the road and rather take a nap after one. The deli sandwichs are very tasty as well. I don't remember the town name or exit number but I'm sure someone here does. I would take a trip down there just to stop in and get me one.
