Why not use the cheater blocks?

When I'm hauling equipment I carry large steel blocks that can be used with the RGN mechanism to get a few more inches of ground clearance. The conversation went: "If you ever get hung up on something...."

Good thinking with the air ride jury rig though.

I do drop & hooks all the time. Some of our trucks have high 5th wheels, others have low-profile ones like on my KW. Not only that, but we drop them in gravel, they're loaded, and the spotter truck sets them down in a different lot, and 80% of the time the bottom of the trailer is 3 inches above my 5th wheel when I'm trying to hook to it, and there's 42,000 lbs in the box. I gotta sit there and crank it in low range to lower it, or risk snapping the handle off (again) trying to do it in high range.

I've been tempted so many times to modify my air ride leveler valve with some kind of quick-release so I can overinflate them just to take the weight off those dolly legs so I can raise them. They'll go up quite a bit before they blow up. They're designed to handle sudden overinflation like if some idiot forgets to hit the dump switch before dropping a loaded trailer or something, and his shocks are worn out and have no rebound damping left in them.

KO1927: I have no idea what cheater blocks are or how they would be used. I don't pull low-boys and am not familiar with them. But I was familiar with air ride suspensions.

Gotta go with what you know. Sounds like the other guy got lucky when you happened by.

I don't hesitate to help other drivers when I can, and have the time. Usually that's only when I'm at home and have tools, knowledge of local directions, or whatever. Out on the road I never even have time to fix my OWN truck because of the schedules we run, and e-logs.
