Those gators are not simply retread rubber lying around. The new tread rubber will not separate from old tire because it is not "hot glued" like retreads were for a short time in the early 1960s. The rubber is now chemically bonded with the old tire carcass, it cannot peal off.
Gators exist today more than they did in old days because in the old days trucks were running bias ply tires, today trucks are running steel belted radial constructed tires.
Bias ply tires had weak tread areas and thick strong sidewalls, radial tires have weak sidewalls and strong tread areas. When you see a gator you are seeing the steel belt that was torn away from the weak sidewall.
Gators exist in such great numbers today because of the inherent design of the modern radial tire.

Isn't that like getting info about how great a Chevy pickup is, with regards to it's competition(Ford, Dodge, ect) from General Motors Information Bureau?wreckless4thf Thanks this. -
I think what drivers/companies are supposed to do is throw there own experience out the door and have some more Kool-Aid
It sure must be some dang good stuff!!! Big Business and Government would never lie to keep something on the market!!!! Retread, do you happen to have GRAPE????

Your argument that some tire changer sees more blown caps than anything doesn't prove crap. Maybe it's because there are more caps on the road. 9 times out of 10 the people who badmouth caps either have never ran them, didn't cap they're own or are capping junk tires to begin with.kwswan Thanks this. -

nothing wrong with caps if you have a decent tire program --just keep an eye on them--with the proper inflation--
kwswan Thanks this. -
So now your implying Virgin Tires blow more than caps??? OMG HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Toto, I don't believe were on EARTH anymore!!! -

2500 dollar fenders.
Michelin tread on Continentals
If I did not trust caps I would not put them under my fenders. That's not the 1st set I've had under there. I'll put my money where it belongs (in my pocket).Attached Files:
