Tell him to ask for Gracie at extension 6624. She is very knowledgeable and has always been straightforward with me. And she returns phone calls.....

I'll second that advice....Gracie is a breath of fresh air in a life changing move that has its share of uncertainties. :biggrin_2554:

Thanks so much - he actually did get a hold of her and was very pleasantly surprised by how accommodating and helpful she was. Appreciate all the advice at a time when we are considering this major life change, and that is what it is for us. And as y'all would most likely agree, it's a change for the whole family, not just the driver :biggrin_25521:

You got it! Its going to be a major change for all of you - there's a section for the gal's on the forum. You might want to check in there for some support. Communication both ways - trucker to home and home to trucker is essential to making it work.

    Thank You All,
I am the potential truck driver in question. First off, I would like to say to Iron Pony..I have been looking through the forums this last week and have enjoyed your level-headed attitude and helpful responses.

I have worked for the same company for 31 years and now the youngest son has taken over and is hell bent on major restructuring and in a slash and burn fashion. While I don't disagree with the premise, he has tried to cut 3 person departments down to one..push people to their brink over the last 16 months, watch them snap..bring them in, cut their pay by well over 25% and then demote them..while telling them they have "failed"..."but I like you so I will keep you on"...Then bring the department back up to 3 people...all making less.

That was my scenario in case it wasn't obvious :biggrin_2551:
So what does one do at 50 years old ?...something he has always dreamed of and about the only thing that makes sense.

This post was actually interrupted by Gracie's call. She just told me that my application looked wonderful and that she could all but promise that it will be smooth sailing as far as being accepted. She is truly wonderful, friendly and personable..and we have the same birthday !!

Thanks again, I will be asking some questions in the future I am sure..

There is one thing I diss-agree one Prime's hiring practice. I am a trainer with Prime before and left Prime then came back and started training again. Seems Prime is now hiring foreigners from Africa and the middle east that came on a working visa. Most of these people never even drove a car then we are expected to train them to drive a 80,000 pound truck? This is really scary. I turned two of these people away for they cannot speak fluent English. I hope that they reconsider the practice of hiring these people.

Im not entirely sure about the visa thing... There were a couple in my class, 3 years ago... their language skills werent very good either.

I dont know, I met some nice guys from Jamiaca in Pittston back in Jan. They were going home for a month and then coming back.

I guess it comes down to the trainers... The trainer isnt forced into the challenge...

Its no different than out on the road... there are plenty of guys out there that barely speak english... Just stand at the fuel desk for an hour... you'll understand what I am talking about

"for they cannot speak fluent English ?" Did they go by the name Bubba :biggrin_25523: by any chance.

Seriously they have to be able to converse in English under FMCSA 391.11 (b) (2)
