Sliding your 5th wheel will do very little for your weight distribution on the back.its all in the tandems in that area Its always a good idea to get weighed if your load is in the high 30000's lbs to see what you have on each axel... I know Werner's policy is weighing is mandatory if your over 44000(i beleave) but I weigh much lower than that.

And if your over GVR... dont even slid anything you wont get it right:)

Free is OK,but on top of the Cat Scale listings the directory lets you know your options truck stop wise if you are in an area you are not familiar with. My plan is to end my day somewhere where there is hot and cold running water, plus hot food. NOT fast food! I do not sleep in rest areas or on ramps. I try to plan ahead to plan my day. Also the directory has T/S phone numbers so one can call and check them out. If you are a Co. driver and or Owner/Op. and can't afford $15.00 look for a new occupation. I only hope you are not one of those guys who does not even own a road atlas.

    Good advice!!

If no Insp is given and a ticket or warring is given there are no points to the driver or to the company. But I dont believe anyone is going to get an over weight ticket without an Insp. Unless its an older DOT guy that understands the the true reality of the crap system the FMCSA has came up with. Still unlikely IMO.

Did you just jinks your self with that comment?:biggrin_25523:

If you got a level 3 Insp thats Driver Only and if your overweight ticket is listed on there you and the carrier got points.
What few carriers that I have talked to a truck shows have all said about the same thing is that tickets like this on a drivers record aint that bad unless its a pattern of them.
Log book, speeding, reckless driving, ect. ect. is more what they are looking at. Those will get you fired or not hired faster than any thing

Well just be more aware of your weights and how the truck rides and all that. And how the trailer is loaded and try to determine if the freight is even from front to back, that can give you a good indication of where your axle's should be. Live and learn.

How does one get a CDL, and a job, and not understand the most basic of information, like legal axle weights? Does the OP know how high his truck is, or is he going to find that out under an overpass/bridge?

P.S. The dispatcher was not driving the truck.

I buy a new motor carrier atlas every 3 years...hardly ever look at the maps, though...I know where I'm going. Mostly, I buy it for the updates in the front section, and to keep up to date on any new coops or restricted routes when I venture into unfamiliar territory. I'm home most every night...and if not, I get a motel room. Trucks are for working, and when it comes time to take a break, I want to be comfortable. Motels have hot & cold running water, clean bathrooms, cable TV, heat & AC, swimming pools, weight rooms, and free breakfast and coffee in the morning.

If a road trip doesn't pay enough to be profitable staying in motels where I can stretch out & be comfortable, then it doesn't pay enough to run it.

Thanks for the unsolicited, unwarranted, and unwelcome addition to a thread that only serves to provide advertisement for you. There are plenty of threads about scam CDL/trucker insurance... usually where the attorney doesn't show up for a hearing, causing a warrant to be issued on a driver... but hey, it's only a truck driver, right?
