Been with Swift since March
Mentor went great, real smooth, then went solo.
Solo runs were halfway decent. I don't know because I can't compare since I have only been with Swift but I have been aware that there are greener pastures..
Sent a Leave Of Absense form for 2 weeks off. Both to HR and to my DM.
Turned in the truck to the Terminal nearing the start of my LOA date.
They translated that as 'Abandonment'. Which it is not. I CMA'ed my ### (covered my ###) with sending the LOA to both HR and DM.
Tried diligently to retain my employ with Swift but apparently someone somewhere in the SWIFT universe decided that, hey, lets lose this driver we are paying .25cpm to while we make enormous profits off of. Oh and in addition lets pay him only 90% of the miles he drives (Swift has a current lawsuit where they are skimming on driver mile compensation from 8-10% per trip).
Swift is the most backasswards company I have ever worked for and I now have the pleasure of saying good bye to. I do not believe that Drivers should be paid .25 cpm ANYWHERE as it is just plain wrong. But these are my choices and so I paid the consequences.![]()

Dude, just grab another job QUICKLY... and press on - you can do .05-.07 cpm better in many places, and not have to give up your truck if you take time off.
Did you keep a copy of the LOA form, I hope? In case there's a question at your next application point... it's better to say "Swift whacked my DAC incorrectly, here's the form I used, and the truck was dropped at the terminal when I needed time off for some personal business". -
If you had done your homework BEFORE you took the job, you would have known that Swift is about the biggest piece of #### company in trucking. The 8-10% scam is still hanging on at a few places, but reputable companies are now paying practical miles.
One thing in Swift's defense, asking for a leave of absence when you have only been working there four months would leave a bad taste in any employer's mouth. Especially since you were probably in training almost half of that time. The request is absurd actually. You might want to do a little research on employee etiquette before you go looking for other work.end of the road, goodchoice10 and Tcc_timbo Thank this. -
Big-Al, My LOA was for my father attending medical testing. Swift does claim to 'address the unique challenges of family life' or whatever their stupid slogan is.

I wonder what will show on the good ol' DAC ??
-
I'm sure they do claim that, but you typically need to put in a certain amount of time before you qualify for a LOA. Did your request for leave get approved, or did you just clean the truck out and leave?
-
Did you follow up on the request and make sure they received it or approved it? How was the request sent? Trippak, email, carrier pigeon, certified letter, etc..........................
-
I don't get why it would be an abandonment... Why wouldn't it just be a resignation or termination? The truck was at the terminal... is there more to the story?
