I would really like to see some documented proof of this claim the driver mills get 10k for each driver they graduate to solo status.

Been hearing this "story" for over 15 years, yet no one can show any documentation of it being this way. What usually happens when push comes to shove...the "teller" finally admits that "he was told this by another "teller" ...."who is very credible and he has never heard him tell him anything out of line before."

This...if it were true...would mean that Jerry Moyes rakes in hundreds of millions of dollars every year just from the "bonus"....then why is Swift LLC in such financial hardship?

And you get 76% of what your employer gets from Prime....not 76% of the line haul rate.....nice try!

If you don't like their training program then by all means, why are you a trainer?

I'm not gonna comment too much on the blown steer rollover or the two or three "sleep driver" rollovers because since England likes to save money on fuel by moving the 5th wheel all the way up and removing the air cylinder so it cant be moved, I'm surprised they aren't blowing more steers since its pretty common to see a tractor with a disabled fifth wheel slider having 12,5k as steer weight and since they won't allow being tired to be used as an acceptable excuse tor being late, there's not much you can do about it but as far as the two nitwits that got blowed over in high winds, c'mon, you can't blame that on England. They have a policy that grants you permission to pull it over to a safe haven. If the wind is blowing you all over the freeway. They even tell you to park so that the front or the rear if your truck is facing the wind just in case it slipped your mind. As far as the dingleberry that swerved to miss a deer and rolled it over, again, not englands fault. That is one of the things they taught in school. DON'T SWERVE TO MISS A DEER!! This shouldn't even be practiced in a car.

Simple, it's a made-up trucker story, handed down through the ages... which some truckers use to make them look like the brightest bulb in the Christmas array.... when comparing knowledge at the Flying J diner counter.

It all comes down to the intelligence of the student. Even a rookie with zero experience should be able to comprehend the physics involved in a 40 ton combination vehicle traveling down the road with a center of gravity 9 feet off the ground.

One thing I remember from Covenant Transport, not sure if this is true or not, but they said that on average, the center of gravity is "stripe high" which is the height of the stripe down the side of their trailers. They even had safety posters in the terminals stating this. The stripes were roughly eye-level with the driver while he's sitting in the cab. That's a pretty #### high center of gravity.

Granted, it varies with every load. Sometimes you're hauling short, heavy, dense stuff like metal parts, or you're hauling tall stuff like pallets of produce. The top-heaviest loads my company hauls is probably bananas. The pallets are about 7 feet tall. That WOULD put the center of gravity for the trailer at about eye level with the driver in the cab.

It shouldn't require any training to inform a driver that his trailer is top-heavy, if he's passed 6th grade physics.

My company sends us fleetwide messages periodically about high winds in Kansas. They always say to pull over and park facing into the wind (how likely are you going to find a place where you can do that???) One time in winter of 08/09, they sent out a message about an ice storm in northwest Iowa and said if you're in this area, it's MANDATORY that you shut down at the nearest safe place. Continuing to drive, even without incident, would get you in a boat-load of trouble.

    Facing into the wind?

No concern about the wind shield or the pitting? Methinks there is something a bit backwards in this thought process!:biggrin_25513:

My coat? You choose... but it's late, and I'm wearing sweats right now, actually.

I just thought it was humorous that this hard-arse NYC guy has been fooled so hard as to think that anyone in management in CRE is honest. I caught their shop manager AND their lead counsel in lies...
