cat brakesaver is an retarder fited into the flywheel of the engine
it was used mainly on cat3408 engine due the absence of compression brake

Drums are probably cheaper! Also the braking power of drums are not nearly as good and drums overheat much faster, I know that discs are no good for offroad but much better for highway trucks, a modern retarder isn't that heavy either, the one on the scania isn't that much bigger than a starter motor, I guess the other components also add to it but really they can't be considered heavy

A compression brake is not nearly as good as a retarder but usually much cheaper.

The conclusion I have come to when comparing US trucks to EU trucks is this.
With US trucks you need better drivers and with EU trucks you need better mechanics.

thats not so big difference in money for me bigger problem is this is still no serial equipment

once i read somewhere one guy wrote best braked truck i have ever drive was fh15 (with cummins engine) and voith retarder with disc brakes(Australia)

as much i found out that engine have 612hp engine brake and retarder i think 812hp or something

anyway scania have heaviest retarder on market

i dont know which gearbox you have is it grs900 or grs/grso905 but only retarder for grs900 is 113kg for grs/o905 is 87kg but with heat exchanger and 20L of water it is 121kg

voith is 59, zf is 70kg

I'm also entertained with your crappola posts - It really is refreshing to see you being exactly as dumb as people say Western Europeans are - since you are so crazy about impressing others with your material things (37 Scanias that is) - Let me introduce you to my ONLY rig - and to give you some perspective - it costed me 117k and was paid for in 19 months (since you are so possessed with money). Needless to say I don't give a sh** about socialist Eurozone anymore - keep it over there. BTW your Scania is retarded compared to 387

I know that in the pic isn't a 387! I got a close inspection of a 387 in holland last Saturday , what a piece of s***! So primative! and the fact remains: you have never had any experience with a scania ! So how can you comment? You keep contradicting yourself ! And Ireland isn't a socialist state! So what are you talking about? Your credibility is shot! You are a fool ! A wanna be ! So stop embarrassing yourself and f*** off and leave this to the professionals child! How's fantasy island by the way? All you have is a computer and a fat #####

I didn't realise that south Africa had both types ( euro and American ) my neighbour is actually south African! But you are the person to ask ! Only you with your side by side analysis can answer how they compare and you actually seem like an educated informed person,
