You lost! A13 is nothing like a 10 with a two speed rear. A 13 is a 9 speed that you have a high and low to the top 4 gears. Todays engines like the extra gears just as much a engines of yesterday. Todays engines have a short power band and half gears keep the engine in the middle of this power band.

Johnday you have an 18 so let's just talk 18- if you want to confirm if you shifting correctly- you can split any gear you like including what we call "crawler" and as you know, you don't HAVE to split all of them or any of them its up to your circumstances at the point of shifting (load, gradient etc).
