Why is it that some truckers drive with their lights on during the day? I don't see no point. Doesn't it just drain the batteries?
Driving with the lights on during daylight hours?

Same as with cars.
Some of the trucks have Daylight Running Lights.
If they drain the batteries, I bet you will be replacing the alternator.otherhalftw and the gambler Thank this. -
Can't drain the batteries if the truck is running... and MANY trucks have daytime running lights (DRLs)... and with others, like Walmart, it is company policy.
the gambler Thanks this. -
allot of trucks, have daytime running lights, release that break and they go on, some companies have a policy where you have to, I dont see how its gonna drain your batteries if the truck is running. Some roads you have to turn your head lights on while on it too.

It's easier to judge the distance that a vehicle is from you if their head lights are turned on.
TRIMAC for many years now had a motto that said, " Lights On For Safety" -
Is there an echo in here?

People notice you more, which is obvious by you making a post about it. I drive with my headlights on all the time in my pickup at home even. You get a much less amount of people pulling out in front of you and not seeing you during a lane change.
rachi and Freebird135 Thank this. -
I have to, I'm wearing sunglasses.trucker_101 Thanks this.

It's for safety(like the others have said). Just about every new car and truck now comes standard with daytime running lights. I run my makers lights on during the day for a few reasons:
1)Safety. I pull into alot of parking lots, I want to be seen.
2)Supriseingly, when backing into an alley way or between two buildings, the maker lights make a good guide to how close to a wall I am.
Example:

The lights helped, especially on the right side. -
Not if you are hauling a load of batteries! I keep forgetting to turn my lights on when it gets dark out. So I run with them on all the time.
BigJohn54 Thanks this.
