Cadet, ask your trainer to show you how to float the gears after you have normal shifting down. Any trainer worth his salt should do this anyway as it could save your bacon sometime if your clutch quits and you need to be able to get to the shop. I once drove with a bad clutch from Houston to Little Rock,Ar. It could also save you if for some reason you miss a downshift goin down hill, floating a gear would be your best option in that scenario. I never let a trainee off my truck when I trained years ago without a lesson in floating gears. It also saves wear on your clutch if you do it properly.

I'm no expert, and double check w/ Prime, but I'm pretty they want to see some kind of graduation certificate. Be it theirs or from another approved school.

Cadet..... I have 6 years experience but let my CDL go about 4 years ago. When i contacted Prime i was told i would only need to do orientation and about 30 days with a trainer. Then i reminded her that i no longer have my CDL. Now i will be going through the entire training program. She did say that safety might shorten it, its on a casa by case basis. I will be starting with Prime Sept. 6th. I would assume if you have your CDL already, you wont have to take the time and trouble of going through their CDL course. Call prime and ask for Gracie. She is a wonderful lady and will answer all your questions. see ya out there......

Rand, difference between you and Cadet? You have HAD a CDL before and by what he's written, he has never had one.

My advice (take or leave it) go through Prime's training. It's far better than what your goin to get from somewhere else. Prime will give you one-on-one instruction in the real world, actually seeing the job first hand. Plus you stay a year and you owe nothing to them.

I ran into a prime driver about a year ago, Im leased on with JCT. Im not a lease op. I own my truck, He asked me how i like it at JCT?, told him I like it very much, Im treated like a person and not like a number, he asked me what my net pay was on a weekly bases was, and when i answered him he said, that about half of what he takes home, he said he takes between $3500. to $4000. home per week, when i asked him to prove what he was saying, he was unwilling, As i very much dout a lease op with a lease truck is netting that kind of money, just like to hear your imput

Depends on how the guy was set up... if he was on the logistics side without a tractor payment, then I suppose that's within the realm of possibility in a teaming situation. Certainly seems high for a lease op, unless he's talking about one particularily good settlement...
