Going to the docs today on a two lane of travel road when the oncoming car goes into my lane, side swipes and takes off. Clearly not my fault, I could have done nothing other than going into the ditch which was not an option. Now, I am going to apply to go to truck driving school, and of course put out applications. Since being that this was a hit and run, and not my fault should I list the accident? and how bad is this going to hurt me? Granted I have never been involved in any type of accident before, and my last ticket was in 1987. Any information would be highly appreciated.

Did you get a police report? How bad was it?
Yes, list everything that happens. If it's not your fault, nothing will happen.
You don't have to list the 1987 ticket. -
Yes, I filed a police report, damage wasnt to bad...my drivers side door mirror was shattered, broke the plastic housing area and some paint transfer going down the side. I would say less than 600.00 damage.
Thanx for the heads up -
If it's not your fault it'll be no problem. I was hit on my motorcycle and it was not my fault and list it along with the $300,000 for the medical bills for me in the damage and have had zero problem.

I do not reject applications if I see accidents listed. I wait until the interview and let the person explain. This way they get a chance.
When filling out applications make sure you ask the company whether you should list the accident. Remember, applications for DOT regulated jobs fall under federal laws and you can get in a lot of trouble for misinformation (I've never seen it happen, but it can happen), or they can straight-up reject your app.
We've had to reject several apps for not listing histories properly. Generally, though, I'll give the app back and ask the person to fill-in the missing info.
We had to reject an individual because he had his girlfriend fill-out his app for him (including signing his name, which she mispelled. . . . twice).
Hope this helps.Last edited: Jul 29, 2011
Everett Thanks this. -
Uh only DOT reportable accidents would have any bearing on a CSA PSP score.
He holds no CDL currently and was not hauling hazmat so not DOT reportable.
That being said the advice is sound. If there is a police report you should ask if they want the info.KinardTrucking Thanks this. -
Thanx everyone, I do appreciate the information.

Even if it was your fault, it was more than five years ago, (for a citation), so it would be off your record by now anyways.

I've had two accidents, neither one of them my fault, the first one the guy ran a stop sign and put his minvan into the path of my big truck and I t-boned him. Lucky for him I was only going @35 mph. The second I was sitting at a red light and some guy coming from my left was making a right hand turn on the street that I was on, hit a patch of ice and slammed into my fuel tank on the drivers' side. At any rate, if you pull up my MVR, both accidents are listed on there, even though they weren't my fault.
I would do some get on google and see how to obtain a copy of your MVR in your home state. The usually give you one per year at no charge. It would make the process of applying for a job that much easier.
